How does a girl get over the things they’ve done?

I don’t even know for sure exactly which bits were them and which bits weren’t. But the bits I know for certain are already enough for me to have reservations about ever forgiving them. No matter how much I might want to at times.

I hate how back and forth I am about this; I need to just make a fucking decision and stick to it.

The door to the bathroom opens and the click of heels echoes throughout the room.

Time to head back out I guess.

I’m trying not to regret coming tonight, because Indi is having so much fun, but I was right. School dances really aren’t my thing. Taking a deep breath, I head out of the stall and come face to face with Blair, Mikayla, Serena, and Emma.

Oh awesome. Just what I needed to make this night better. If I had to guess, I’ll find Brittany outside the door. I try to move past them, but they block the way to the door. “What do you want?”

“I warned you, Octavia. I warned you on your first day of school. Do you remember what I said?” Blair’s shrill voice fills the silence of the room, and I wince at just how hysterical she sounds.

I resist rolling my eyes at her, and let out a sigh. “No, Blair, I don’t remember what you said. It was a hot minute ago.”

Despite the truth of my words, they just seem to anger her further. She clenches her fists at her sides, practically vibrating with rage. “I told you that this was my school. That I was queen, and that you had better remember it.”

“Oh that.” I sigh, “I don’t want your school or your crown, Blair. You can have them. Now if I can just leave, please. I’ll get out of your hair.”

She smiles at me, looking almost possessed and maniacal as her eyes go wide. “I have a better idea in mind.”

The four of them rush at me and we all go down in a tangle of limbs. I try to fight them off, but apparently being cheer barbie gives you more muscles than my pathetic attempts at working out recently.

“Get the fuck off me!” I shout, and Blair just laughs again as she basically sits on my chest while the others hold my arms and legs.

This is fucking insane.

“I’ll teach you to take what is mine. It was all meant to be mine. They were meant to be mine but you just ruined everything! And now I’m going to ruin you!” She pulls a pair of scissors from her clutch, and my eyes go wide before I struggle against them even harder.

She cackles before grabbing a handful of my hair and starts snipping. I scream until my throat is hoarse, but no one comes to help me. I don’t give a fucking inch though.

“You’re going to regret this, Blair,” I shout as she makes her last cut.

She laughs dryly as she drops the scissors and pulls a Sharpie from her purse. “There isn’t anything left that you can do to me. I already lost everything.”

She grabs my cheeks and uses the Sharpie to write on my forehead before slapping me on the face twice.

“Suck on that, homecoming queen.”

They clamber off of me and I scream, jumping up and lunging after them, but they yell and run from the room. I growl in frustration as they reach the gym and enter as if nothing happened. I storm back to the bathroom to grab my bag so I can get my phone, and I get a look at the damage they’ve done. I lock the door before turning to face the mirror, not wanting to be interrupted while I bathe in my shame.

My long, dark locks hang in uneven lengths around my shoulders, the word ‘Slut’ smeared across my forehead. I blink back tears of anger because I refuse to cry.

There is no way they will see me fucking cry.

I try to call Indi, but it goes to voicemail so I send her a text instead. I hate pulling her from her guys right now, but selfishly, I need my bestie.

Me:

SOS. Bitch Squad got me. I need to head home.

I try to scrub the marker from my forehead but it won’t come off. I bark out a dry laugh. Of course it won’t. My phone pings on the counter and Indi’s name flashes on the screen.

“Where are you?” she asks the second I answer.

“In the bathroom.”
