Teagan couldn’t help but laugh. She let go of the breath she’d been holding and stole back her fork from Catriona.

“Hey!” Catriona said, a smile spreading over her face.

Devlin placed a plate and a fork in front of his sister and said, “Served you right, sis.”

“I know. Okay, so how did you two end up together in this kitchen? Did you finally drive out to her farm and claimed your girl?” Catriona asked Devlin while forking another pancake.

Devlin’s unease was palpable. He cleared his throat and scratched his head, taking a moment to answer. Teagan felt a pit in her stomach since he was about to pop their happy bubble. His sister had spoken too soon about claiming Teagan.

She’d seen a biker show on television a time or two. Claiming Teagan was the last thing on his mind, she was sure of it.

The silence after Catriona’s remark stretched out… Talk about awkward.

Teagan dared a glance from her plate to Devlin sitting opposite of her. The vulnerability in his expression mixed with carnal lust didn’t shock her as much as his words as he held her eyes and said, “Not yet.”

That little word ‘yet’ said it all. He wasn’t there—yet. It was, however, more than she’d expected him to ever admit.

“I’m so here for this, you know…” Catriona said as she leaned her head on her palms, her elbows resting on the bar as she watched Devlin and Teagan eye each other.

“Yo, what’s goin’ on in here?” Devlin’s brother, Kieran, said as he joined them in the kitchen.

Teagan averted her eyes, since the man also came downstairs in nothing but gray sweatpants. She’d heard from Gwenn about the firefighter. Devlin wasn’t the only player in the family.

“Hey, we’ve met at your farm the other day. Am I right?”

She glanced up from her plate to take in Kieran’s square jaw, Roman nose and twinkling brown eyes.

“Hi. Yeah. Eh, so you live here with Devlin?”

She interrupted a shared look between brothers where Kieran smiled like the cat that got the cream and Devlin silently warned his brother to say nothing about finding her in his kitchen this morning.

“Yeah, it’s the three of us here,” Kieran said.

Teagan smiled at Catriona. “Oh, so you live here too?”

Catriona nodded. “Yeah. You don’t think Devlin would have picked out that comfy sectional, do you? Or those kick-ass plants and woven baskets?”

Teagan giggled. “I was wondering who bought those…”

“Girl, you’re the only one he’s ever brought around here. It’s safe to say there’s no ex whose bad juju you’ve got to get rid of here with a sage cleanse.”

“Remind me to never bring a girl home whenever you’re around,” Kieran said with a snort.

“Why?” Catriona sat back on her bar stool, crossing her arms.

“You’re completely throwing Dev under the bus by sharing his past.”

Catriona threw caution to the wind as she continued, “Devlin doesn’t have a past. None that matters, that is. Those skanks at the—”

Devlin stood from his stool. “Enough. I’m sure Teagan doesn’t need to hear any of this shit.”

Catriona mumbled around her fork, “If it were me, I would have been happy to know I was the first to actually meet a guy’s brother and sister…”

Teagan smiled in appreciation at Catriona. Devlin’s sister spoke her mind, but at least Teagan knew what she got with her. And Catriona had been right, as she indeed was pleasantly surprised to hear that at least the bed she’d slept in last night wasn’t some kind of revolving door for all his conquests.

Devlin ignored his sister as he cleaned up their dirty plates.

“Hmm. Pancakes, eh? Must have been quite the night?” Kieran joked as he winked at Catriona, who gestured with her hand that was exactly what she’d meant.
