“Whatever you do, sis, we’re here for you.” Kayla patted Errin’s knee before getting up from the sofa and strutting to the kitchen. “How about another drink, eh?”

Kate cleared her throat and shifted in her seat. She looked up at Errin from under her eyelashes and said, “Are you really moving back home? I mean… I would miss you like crazy. I miss you now, even though we’re only a few miles apart whenever I stay at Don’s place.”

Errin scooted closer to Kate and placed her arm around her shoulder. “I miss you too, sis. But you already know that.”

“Yes. I just wished that you and Brennan would—”

“Nah-ah. No, Kate.” Errin shook her head. “I don’t need Brennan to make me happy. And as much as I love you, I also don’t need you here at the apartment to be happy. I think I’m just figuring this out.”

Kate teared up, and Errin nudged her, ready to switch topics. “So. Enough of this emotional stuff. Can you find that old phone for me, please?”

Kate nodded and gave Errin a kiss on her cheek. “Love you, sis.”

“Love you too,” Errin said.

As soon as Kate left the room, Errin turned to Kayla.

“Can you call Donovan for me?”

Kayla blinked once before raising her brows. “Why?”

“Do it for me, please? He’s your boss and will answer you,” Errin said in a somewhat slurred voice. Damn. Downing that wine was catching up on her real quick.

“He would answer your calls too, Bunny. But I don’t think it’s smart to call him, since you just said you’re suddenly all about making adult decisions…”

Errin clucked her tongue and held out her hand. Kayla shook her head while typing a few keys and handed over the phone. After two dialing tones, Donovan answered.

“Kayla? Something wrong? Where’s Kate?”

“Donovan. Hey. Errin here,” she started, but this alpha man wasn’t impressed and asked again. “Where’s Kate?”

“Geez. She’s here. Nothing’s wrong.” She took a deep breath and had to fight the urge to roll her eyes.

“Okay. So, you’re aware I can’t handle alcohol, so please bear with me as I want to excuse myself in advance…”

Kayla groaned next to her and said, “Pff, this is gonna be good.”

Errin shoved her shoulder in a playful manor. “Shut up, Kayla.”

“Get to the point, Errin,” Donovan barked in her ear. Errin never took to Don like she did to the other Mills men.

His dominance and aloofness rubbed her entirely the wrong way. Not to mention how he acted towards Kate in the first months after they’d moved to Austin to be reunited with Kayla.

She realized her sister wanted for Errin to act like it was all water under the bridge. But yeah, Errin never let go of anything.

Shit. Why am I even calling him?Oh yeah. Kate. She loves him. She’s happy with the jerk.

“Okay. So just let me say this. I’ve been an absolute ass to you and Kate. You two deserve to be happy. I think she should move in with you. She obviously wants to, but she’s just stalling because of me.”

Kayla’s placed a hand against her open mouth and above her hand, her eyes widened at Errin’s confession.

“I mean it,” Errin said and made a point of emphasizing this wasn’t some drunken move on her part.

“I know you do,” Donovan said.

“You do?” Errin furrowed her brows.

“Yes. You know how?” he said.
