That will be fun to deal with later. I sigh, slipping my phone back into my pocket.

“Let’s go.” Vince intones.

I look at Dom as he steps to me, kissing my cheek and pulling me into a hug.

“Thank you!” I nod to him and Rome. They smile back as we exit the barn and head back to the golf cart. The children run after us, yelling goodbyes. As I sit down next to Rome in the front, Kiri is on the porch holding one of the babies in her arms, waving to us with that infectious grin of hers.

I do the same, feeling a knot in my throat that we’re leaving their perfect slice of the world and going back to reality. The drive back to the gates is quiet, and I get the sense that there’s tension between Rome and Vince. As soon as we stop, Vince gets out and grabs my hand before I can even stand to my feet.

“Good luck to you, Mr. San Giovanni,” Rome calls after us as we meet the security waiting for us on the other side of the fence. I glance back at him, watch as he starts the cart again, and head back up over the hill. Vince doesn’t say a word. He just continues to pull me to the street as security surrounds us in a circular formation.

“What happened?” I furrow my brows, and he tenses his jaw, continuing to look straight ahead towards the car.

“Hey, what happened?” I reiterate, and he shakes his head. I huff dramatically, so he knows he’s being annoying, and we get into the car as Lee starts it.

“Vince.” I click my seatbelt, trying to grab his attention.

“Just.” He raises his hand and voice for a moment, then takes a sharp breath before resolving. “Stop.” He almost whispers, seething with anger as he turns to the window.

I shake my head in annoyance, feeling my lip curl in anger, and look out the window for the remainder of the drive back to the hotel. What the fuck is his problem?
