He wrapped his arms around me, securing me closer against him. “What am I going to do with you?” he muttered into the top of my hair.
Kenna’s bedroom door squeaked open. “You made it home,” she whispered, shooting Brock a look.
Surprise flitted over my features. “Were you waiting for me?”
She leaned her shoulder against the doorframe. “I just wanted to make sure you got home safe.” Her gaze flicked to Brock for a second. Had she been worried about Brock?
Brock cast Kenna an expression of mistrust. “I’m going to bed. Can I trust you the two of you alone?”
“What do you think?” Kenna countered sarcastically.
“That I’m going install iron bars on your windows and a lock on your door,” he retorted without blinking.
I put my hand on his chest. “Or I could just sleep with you tonight.”
“Finally, an idea I approve of.” Brock dipped down and pressed his lips to mine. “I’ll see you in a minute.” Regardless that he was still upset with me, it didn’t seem to diminish his need to have me in his bed.
We both needed the comfort of each other tonight. For different reasons, but the fact remained that we leaned on each other, good or bad.
Kenna had changed out of her criminal gear into a matching pair of pajama pants and tank. “You’re not so bad,” she said after Brock walked away.
A partial smile touched my lips. “I can say the same about you. Thanks for having my back tonight.”
“Anytime.”
We smirked at each other for another moment. “It’s wild. I never imagined I’d have the courage to do what we did tonight.”
“I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep at all tonight. My adrenaline is still pumping.” Kenna put a hand over her heart, feeling it thump in her chest. “At least you have something to do tonight,” she said, her gaze lingering on Brock’s bedroom door.
I chuckled. “He’s not happy with me at the moment.”
Air breezed through her nose. “Please, that won’t stop him.”
Rubbing the muscle on the back of my neck, I thought about the guy waiting for me just down the hall. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
Kenna grinned. “Wouldn’t miss it. I’ve never been so excited for Monday.”
