“Let’s go. I’ll put on my happy face at the bar.”

Amanda and Jamie share a look that has my radar popping. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing.” Jamie pulls away from my house. Let’s go have some fun, ladies!”

I snort. “Yep! I feel the need to get really damn drunk tonight.”

“Behave,” Amanda growls.

I sit back and cross my arms on my chest, sure that this night is going to be hell. I’m going to regret coming out for sure.

If I thought it would work I would tell my cousin to turn around right this second. But she’d ignore me.

Considering how much shit I gave her when she tried to ditch Rafe, I wouldn’t be surprised if she hog-tied me and dragged me in that bar.

Fair’s fair, I guess.

Ten minutes later we’re pulling up to Rafe’s place. I give it one last shot. “I don’t feel so good. Maybe I’m catching a cold.” I fake a cough and both of them turn to eye me disbelievingly.

“Fine.” I step out of the car, slamming the door.

The parking lot’s packed and I wish to god I hadn’t let the girls talk me into this.

But I step through the door with my head held high because I’m not letting anybody say that I’m sitting at home crying over Jeremiah.

Jamie immediately spots the table full of our friends. She waves wildly, screeching loudly. I can’t stop the wince.

Amanda shoves me in the back. “Let’s go, Harvey. You got this.”

“Right.”

Rafe meets us at the table with our drinks. He kisses Jamie on the lips and they cling together like they’ve been apart for six years and he just came home from the wars instead of them living together and seeing each other a couple of hours ago.

All the girls shriek loudly, the yahoos drawing the attention of the entire bar. My shoulders hunch up when everybody’s eyes turn to me.

“Seriously. You two need to learn what pda is. Stop it and sit down.” I drag Jamie out of his arms and he growls angrily.

“Settle down, Rafe. You’ll have her back tonight.” He glares at all of us and kisses Jamie’s cheek again.

Then he stomps off back to the bar.

“That’s what you need, sister!” Jamie grins and sits down next to me.

“To get arrested for public indecency? I don’t think so. I like the sheriff but I’m not looking to spend time with him. He’s not my type.”

Ruth grins wickedly. “I’d let him handcuff me any day.”

Amanda grins, taking a sip of her drink. “I would too!”

James stops at our table and her face flushes when he takes her drink, sipping out of it. “I think maybe you’ve had enough to drink, baby girl.”

She swats him as the table of women laugh. “I’m just having fun. You know I wouldn’t let anybody but you handcuff me.” She flushes bright red and slides down in the seat. “Fine. Maybe I have had too much.”

“Come dance with me, baby girl.” He holds out his hand and she steps up to him immediately.

I watch as she melts into his arms, a smile tilting her lips and his eyes full of so much happiness it hurts to look at them.

“You can have that too, Harvey. Don’t let one little setback keep you from looking for love.”
