Sienna bit her lip and glanced at Kane. “I might be black and blue in the morning.”
Hannah gasped, and Kane snorted.
“Really, you think you’re going to be beaten? When have I ever abused you?” Kane asked.
“You’ve never been this mad at me before,” Sienna said.
Kane stopped at a stop sign and cupped her friend’s face. “I would never hurt my girl. She’s my world.”
Hannah sniffed. It was so sweet.
“My butt’s still going to be achy, though, right?” Sienna asked Kane.
Kane chuckled. “Yup. Inside and out.”
Hannah didn’t know what that meant. She glanced at Cullen to see him staring at her. She looked away and out her window.
Kane turned down a street, and the area didn’t look familiar. “Do you live here, Sienna?”
“No, I do,” Cullen said.
“Oh.” She had no idea what else to say. She hadn’t known he’d moved in the three months she was gone. The fact it was a house like they talked about buying in the past wounded her further.
A sick thought filled her head. What if his new girlfriend lived there with him? Hannah didn’t want to ever set foot in the house then.
They pulled into the driveway. Cullen got out, turned, set an arm on the top of the car, and then looked down at her.
She waved. She didn’t know what she was supposed to do. “Bye.”
Kane snorted.
Cullen rolled his eyes, reached for her, and dragged her out.
“Hey, what are you doing? I have to go back to work,” Hannah said.
Cullen ignored her. “Thanks, Kane,” he said.
“You’re welcome. Us daddies must stick together, or we’d have gray hair in a week.”
Hannah’s heart sank. The reminder that she didn’t belong there made her feel like her throat was clogged with emotion.
“Why do you look so sad, Hannah?” Kane asked.
“I shouldn’t be here. His little might get angry.”
Kane frowned, glanced over her shoulder, and then nodded. “We’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
She tried to pull out of Cullen’s grip on her arm as he walked toward the front door.
He started punching in the code to the lock on the door. “By the way, the code is the first time we made love,” he said and pulled her into the house.
Hannah swallowed. If he was trying to hurt her, he was doing a good job of it.
She turned away to hide her pain.
“There’s that face again. Do you mind telling me what you’re thinking?”
She clenched her hands together. “I shouldn’t be here.”
