“You…want to be our sperm donor?” he asks slowly.
“I guess that’s kind of what I’m offering, yeah,” I say, the full weight of it finally settling over me.
I don’t know what the fuck came over me, just that he was in pain and I wanted to do something to stop it. And knowing that it might make Alyson happy, too, is more than just a cherry on top.
He stares at me for a long time, his blue eyes intense. “You’re serious,” he says finally, eyebrows lifting.
I shrug, “It’s not that big a deal, right? It’s not like I’m giving up a kidney or anything.”
“It’s a big thing, Forrest,” he tells me, “Don’t play stupid, you know it is.”
“But look, you need to talk to Alyson about all of this,” I tell him, holding up my hands, “Just because I’m offering doesn’t mean she’ll want to take me up on it.”
“No, I know,” he says, nodding, “I wouldn’t say yes without talking to her first. But seriously, Forrest…it means a lot.”
“Don’t mention it,” I try to wave him off casually, but to my surprise, he grabs my hand.
“No,” he shakes his head, giving my hand a squeeze, “I mean it, Forrest. Thank you.”
My cheeks burn and my heart races. I quickly tug my hand from his before he can feel the way my pulse is racing. “You’re welcome,” I mumble, then grab my drink and take a hasty swig.
I wonder exactly what the hell I’ve just gotten myself into.
