The moment I walked into the office, I was bombarded with a combination of congratulations and questions. I beelined for my office and closed the door. This was what I wanted. Ever since I was a young boy watching my dad go to work, I wanted to be him. I wanted to be the next Bancroft real estate mogul. Here I was, sitting in my huge office with success surrounding me. I made it. I was the guy at the top. There was no one else to turn to. While I had fought and climbed and begged for it, I couldn’t have imagined I would be doing it totally on my own without my dad to lean on.

“Knock, knock,” Josh said as he pushed open the door.

“I suppose that means my day is no longer canceled?”

“As soon as I got your replacement, I rearranged things,” he said. “You don’t have the time to cancel your day. How was your dabbling in the sales office?”

“I sold a penthouse,” I said proudly.

“Good job. I’ll get numbers for you by the end of the day. I think that puts us around the sixty percent mark.”

“If we hit eighty-five, I’ll be happy. We can always rent the other units. Dad encouraged me to rent at least ten percent to up the revenue stream.”

“Sounds like a good plan,” he said while handing me a stack of paperwork that needed my signature.

The rest of my day was consumed with business that needed my attention. I barely had time to worry about Dad, but he was never far from my mind.
