“I was nice to him, like you told me to be, and guess what? He still stomped off.”

“He is a little fussy today, someone should feed him.” I laugh.

“Agreed.”

“One thing that I didn’t fail to notice was your hand on Mr. Donatello’s shoulder. Finally thinking about what I’ve been saying, huh?”

“Take that small amount of hope out of your eyes and throw it in the nearest trash can.”

“It will stay in my eyes until the end of time. As Yoda says, “if he chooses to not believe and lack hope, he will fail every time.”

“Did you just pull a Star Wars quote out of your ass?”

“Yes, ma’am!”

“You’re such a nerd.”

“Proudly. If you want to offend me, you’ll have to do more than that to phase my pretty face.”

“Your ego just gets bigger the more time you spend with the devil’s spawn.”

“Just wait until you hear my Lord of The Rings quotes.” His eyebrows raise at me while smirking as if he’s making a sexual comment.

“Do you ever back down?” I ask.

“Never.”

“Goodbye.” I start walking away and hear his laugh behind me.

“The lovebirds are having trouble in paradise today. Someone get their diapers changed. It appears they’re both having extensive tantrums,” Xavier yells from behind me. I smile a little before walking away.

Pinche Xavier, lo amo.

“We’re finished here, I will see you all tomorrow.” The lead diagnostics specialist says to the whole team, who, by the way, just got a second and third placement at qualifying. Mr. Donatello must be off his rocker because he still seems angry. The prick.

Walking away from everyone, I make my way to an empty garage. Everything is set in its place, and the black cover sits atop my car. I trace my finger from the top to the bottom. One thing that gives me more ecstasy than anything in the world is this car. Taking off the cover, I look around to make sure I’m alone.

I look at it with rigorous attention. The white lines and my number on the side. I still can’t believe this is my life.

I hear a tool clank in the garage. I jolt up like I’ve just seen a ghost. Well, I mean, I’m not wrong. More like a demon but same thing.

“Everyone left, Ale. Why are you still here?”

“I could ask you the same thing, Luca.” He points at his desk, and I see his phone vibrate and flash.

“That’s surprising. You never leave your phone anywhere.”

“Not like it’s any of your business. But my family has been hounding me about the result.”

“It was a good result.”

“It was fine, but my mom thinks otherwise.” He sighs.

“Interesting.”

“What are implying,ragazza?”

“I just wouldn’t have taken you as someone who has to please his family constantly.”
