She gave me the best gift ever on our anniversary when she told me that she was pregnant with Jasmine.
Kennedy’s pregnancy with Jasmine was a little rough so we decided to keep it at two. Having two kids back to back was hectic but luckily we have a big family that always wants to help.
Now that the kids are a little older, we’ve got some more free time. They’re both in preschool and with Kennedy running the office side of the Dude Ranch, we see each other all of the time.
“Okay, I got the Fulter family settled in now,” Kennedy says as she emerges from her office.
“Did they give you a hard time?” I ask and she rolls her eyes.
“They want a stallion,” she says in a whiny voice and I grin.
Every now and then we get a picky family in, one who thinks that they’re going to be real cowboys and could handle a wild mustang. Kennedy can usually calm them down and charm them which is lucky for me because I don’t have the patience for it.
“They’re happy and getting into their cabin now.”
“Good. We better go soon or you’re going to miss your flight,” I tell her as she reaches for Jasmine.
“I’ll go grab my bags.”
“I’ll get them,” I tell her, setting Cara on her feet.
I head down the hall and into our bedroom. The house has changed a lot since she moved in. It used to be almost sterile in its simplicity but now every room is bursting with life and clutter. I kick some of the girls' toys out of the way as I enter our bedroom to grab Kennedy's suitcase. We painted the walls a soothing green and added some tree wallpaper that Kennedy fell in love with.
She loves to go from room to room updating the décor and painting so our house feels like it's constantly being redone but I don't mind. I want my wife to love our home and I know that she likes to keep busy so I'm happy to help her paint or hang wallpaper or shelves.
Our daughters seem to have the same gene because they've changed their rooms around at least a dozen times already. Every other week they're asking me to help them rearrange the furniture in their room or to hang up a new picture.
I don’t mind. They take it so seriously that I actually find it adorable. Remy, Kai, and Griz are always finding them new artwork or Knick knacks for their rooms.
It’s nice to be able to raise my family so close to my brothers. They’re all married with kids now and we’re always hosting play dates or babysitting so that someone can go on a date night. We’ve got a good system in place now and I’m looking forward to when Kennedy gets back and we have our date night.
I bring the bag out to the living room and see Kennedy giving the girls a kiss goodbye.
“I’m going to be back in just a few days and I’ll call you every night,” she promises them.
They hug her, clinging to her as she tells them that she loves them.
Remy lets himself inside and I smile at him.
“They’re just saying goodbye now,” I tell him and he nods.
“The kids are looking forward to them coming over to play,” he tells me and I nod.
Jasmine and Cara spot Remy and run over to him.
“Are we going to your house?” They ask and he nods.
"Yep, I'm going to watch you for a little bit."
They hurry to get their shoes on and I help Kennedy to her feet.
“Are you ready to go?” I ask her and she nods.
We head out to the car as Remy takes the girls' hands and starts to head back to his own house.
“I’m going to miss them so much,” Kennedy says as I put her suitcase in the trunk.
“You’ll be back soon enough,” I say and she sighs.
