Who was she kidding? A dress was one thing, but her hair was a wild mess. Rosslyn had no idea who she’d be meeting with tonight and needed to ensure she didn’t embarrass Uncle—Mr. Grayson.

She really should’ve had her hair cut before she came to the city. It would’ve been so much more cost effective, because she would’ve had one of her friends do it. Now she needed to find a salon that would take a walk-in and wouldn’t charge an arm and a leg for it.

Rosslyn hated to admit it, but she needed to make the five hundred dollars go a lot further than a dress.

When the taxi driver pulled up to the curb, she got inside and said, “Can you take me to the most reasonable consignment shop around? I have a party to go to.”

The driver nodded. “My brother owns one just out of the city. It’ll cost you seventy-five bucks for me to take you there and back.”

“Fancy dresses?” she asked.

What she’d save on the dress would definitely be worth it. “Does he cut hair too?”

The driver chuckled. “Are you looking for a buzz cut?” Her eyes widened and she shook her head. “Then I suggest a place not far from my brother’s shop.”

It wasn’t going to make much sense to have the driver wait for her the entire time. “Maybe you can give me your number and I’ll call you when I’m finished? I need to be back in the city early.”

“I’ll visit my family while waiting.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. If I don’t spend time with my nephews and my niece at least once a week, they call me crying, saying they miss me.”

Rosslyn had no idea what that was like. Her uncle hadn’t seemed to give a crap about her as a child. Even now, there was no warmth in his eyes when he looked at her. If anything, it almost looked like he resented that she . . . existed.

I guess the only thing Uncle Max loves is his money.
