“That’s what family does. When someone needs help, you help.”

“You make it sound like that’s the way all families work.”

Rosslyn shrugged. “One could dream.” She wasn’t sure she was doing everything she could, but she was trying.

She yawned and Charles said, “Why don’t you sleep? It’s a long ride and you look exhausted.”

“You didn’t get any more sleep than I did.”

“But you have more on your mind than I do. Now close your eyes. If I get tired, I’ll pull over and sleep awhile.”

She yawned again and wanted to argue with him. “Only if you promise never to mention those photos again.”

Charles laughed. “You have my word. Now sleep, sweetheart.”

Her eyes burned and even if she wanted to stay awake, she wasn’t going to be able to. Leaning back in the seat, she let herself drift off, thinking it would be just for a few minutes. But she opened her eyes to the bright lights of the city.

“Charles, you were supposed to wake me,” Rosslyn said.

He said, “That’s okay. Listening to you talk in your sleep was a lot more fun.”

Her eyes widened and she sat straight up. “I didn’t, did I?”

“Yes. I would like to think you were dreaming of me. At least I hope so. It sounded a bit like it did last night.”

Rosslyn blushed, laid back in the seat, and said, “I’m not sure if you’re joking, but I choose to believe you’re only teasing me.” Please be joking. As they pulled up in front of her building she turned to him and said, “Thank you, Charles. This weekend was exactly what I needed.”

“Me too. I’ll give you a call tomorrow after work.”

“Here’s hoping I have a job in the morning,” Rosslyn laughed. “But if not, I hope he fires me before I get out of bed. I wouldn’t mind sleeping late tomorrow.”

“Trust me, Rosslyn, he’s not firing you. At least not tomorrow.” He leaned over and kissed her. “Good night. Sweet dreams.”

As she got out of the car and headed upstairs, she knew sweet were the only dreams she could have. Their time together was all she saw every time she closed her eyes. And that wasn’t a dream either.
