“I didn’t bring a bathing suit,” I said.
“Neither did I,” he grinned.
I got up and let the blanket drop to the floor. “Funny, I’m feeling warmer already.”
He scooped me up into his arms and kissed me. “I thought you’d see things my way.”
The heat spread from my core, and I whispered, “Maybe you can show me the bedroom first.”
“Don’t trust me that it will be warm?” he asked.
“I trust you, but there is something else on my mind at the moment.” I kissed his neck and muttered, “And it’s not chocolate,” I said, giving him a playful nip.
Moaning, he said, “My cravings have just kicked in, too.”
He carried me up the large wooden stairs, up to the most magnificent room I’d even seen, with rustic styling throughout. Natural wood everywhere I looked, including the bed frame. The only thing with any color was a thick, plush white rug on each side of the bed.
“Liam, I’ve seen this place in my dreams before. It’s…perfect.” I knew it was impossible, but when I thought about what my home would look like someday, this was it. And you’re the man I’d want to share it with.
“Maybe someday I’ll build you your own,” he said, placing me on the edge of the bed.
It stung my heart to hear him talk like that. We both knew that wasn’t going to happen. We had no future together. But we have this weekend.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and said, “I have another dream I’d like you to fulfill, if you’re up to it.”
Pushing me back to lie onto the bed, he said, “I have a few of my own.”
There was no more talk of tomorrows, as our bodies became one.
The next morning, I woke early and as usual, dialed my mom’s number. It wouldn’t go through. I tried again, but nothing.
I hated to wake Liam up, but this wasn’t good. If she didn’t hear from me, she’d try calling. If she couldn’t get through, she’d panic. Who knows what she’d do? I didn’t tell her I was traveling, and I’m pretty sure Liam didn’t update his brother, either. I’d like it that they were kept in the dark. But I had to get a message to my mom somehow.
Tapping Liam on the shoulder, I asked, “Are you awake?”
“Depends on what you’re offering,” he said.
I enjoyed morning loving, but not right now. “I can’t call out. My phone has no service.”
“Yeah. That’s a problem up in the mountains sometimes. Did you try walking to a different part of the cabin? You might have luck there or outside.”
“I’m not going out there. Did you look up at the skylight? It’s covered in snow.”
He rolled over and opened his eyes. “Oh, yeah. Nice.”
“There’s nothing nice about it. It’s probably the reason I can’t make a call,” I said firmly. I really hate snow.
“Would you like to try mine?” he offered.
“I need to call my mom. I can’t do that on your phone,” I said.
“Maybe it will come back later,” he stated.
“You don’t know my mom. She’s going to flip out and think the absolute worst if she can’t reach me.” And for good reason too after what she’s been through.
“I can call my brother and have him give her a message that the network is spotty,” he offered.
“No. I don’t want your brother to know we are together, either.” This is what I was afraid of. Eventually, we would get into a situation where someone would learn about our relationship.
