“Where are you going now?” Mom inquired.
“Just meeting a friend.” Liam wasn’t a lover, or an enemy, so friend seemed to fit, for now.
“Someone from the hospital?” she asked.
“Yes,” It wasn’t a lie. Not really. It was the only place I’d ever seen him. If they knew I was meeting a man, they would demand to meet him first. And when they found out who I was meeting, they’d never let me go. They would tell me my reputation would be ruined, and I’d never find a Tabiqian man who’d want me after. But I didn’t want my parents to choose who I marry, who I love. I wanted to make the choice myself. Just like President Florraz. We are the women of tomorrow. Women who are not afraid to take a chance and fail.
“Have a good time.”
I walked out of the house, still holding my breath. I couldn’t believe that had been so easy. I hated keeping things from my parents. They were good people. They just couldn’t accept that I was no longer their little girl.
I’m a woman with feelings, desires. I don’t know what I want, but I want more than just being Nurse Marzon. I want…a fairytale.
It wasn’t a realistic dream, but dreams aren’t meant to be reality. And tonight, I wanted to have even just a piece of what women got to feel in other countries.
I want to feel…normal.
