Then, he rests his hand on my belly, like he always does, when I'm in reach. Like he's ready to protect anyone or anything that tries to get near. When his mom and dad come up to touch my belly, it also irritates him. He doesn't like anyone touching me, and I love how protective he is.
He was protective of our son, and he loves showing him how to do new things on the ranch, but I have a feeling, when our little girl is born, he will be extra protective of her and will be training our son to do the same thing.
Heck, if I'm being honest, I'm sure Geo and all the ranch hands will be extra protective. Garrett gets that from his dad. I've seen how his dad is with his mom, and as soon as they heard we were having a girl, they made plans to move back to Whiskey Run.
They were just going to buy a small place in town, but Garrett insisted they live on the ranch. So, they picked a small plot of land far enough from the main house for us both to have some privacy and then built a cabin for themselves. They moved in last week, and our son, Alex, is staying with them this weekend.
My dad has officially retired, and we even offered to build him a cabin on the other side of the ranch from Garrett's parents, but he wants to stay in town. He's become a bit of a social butterfly. He goes to the library a few times a week, has dinner at the diner to keep up on local gossip, meets up with friends several times a week, and even started volunteering. I think he has a better social life now than I ever did.
The second Garrett removes his hands from my belly so that he can feed me, our little girl kicks, and she kicks hard.
"I guess she isn't too happy to not have your attention," I grunt, as she kicks again.
The moment he places his hand back on my belly, she settles down.
"She's already a daddy's little girl," I joke.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." He says, kissing me.
My life may not have gone according to plan, but I think it turned out so much better.
