“Are you good here?” I ignored the smirk he gave me before he nodded his head.
“Sure. Don’t take too long, though.”
I rolled my eyes at his implication before I walked out from behind the bar and disappeared back to where Freddie had gone to. He was exiting the bathroom just as I headed up the corridor. He froze, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
“What’s up?” he asked before he fiddled with the knot of his tie. He looked very sexy in his normal business suit but he looked just as handsome in his bar uniform of shirt, tie and waistcoat that oddly enough looked good with his suit trousers. My eyes zeroed in on the crown tattoo on his forearm and it made me crazy that he also had ink on him.
I couldn’t stop my thoughts from wondering if he had ink anywhere else. I would have fun exploring him to find out if there was any other ink on him.
“Everything okay?” he asked when I just continued to stare at him.
“No.” I placed my hands in my pockets and leisurely walked toward him. “I spent last night with this guy that I was looking forward to waking up to make breakfast for. Instead, my whole day got ruined when he ran out on me.” I frowned at him, still confused about what the hell happened to make him run off on me. “Care to fill me in?”
He closed his eyes before he dropped his head and stared at the floor.
“Well?” I prompted, feeling impatience start to take control of me.
He blew out a breath and lifted his face to mine. “I like you. Okay?” he snapped.
“Now I’m even more bloody confused,” I muttered.
“I like you! And, uh…” He chuckled. “I was embarrassed that we… That you and I…” He wagged his finger between us.
I stared at him before it all suddenly clicked into place.
“You think we slept together?” I stared at him with wide eyes and I knew I must have looked as surprised as I felt.
“Well, yes!” he defended. “I mean, we were in the same bed and you…” He waved his hand at me. “And then I…”
“Well, I did offer to sleep on the sofa, but you insisted the bed was big enough for the both of us.” I took a step closer, wanting to shrink the distance between us. “And besides,” I continued, “if we had slept together, you definitely would have remembered it.”
“I would have, would I?” He grinned at me and I loved the confidence in his tone. “And what would I have remembered?” he asked back.
I stepped forward and placed my hands on each side of him, caging him in against the wall.
“You would have remembered the way it felt to have my hands on you.” I stroked my hands up over his arms. “You would have remembered the way that I touched you.” I leaned forward and kissed behind his ear. “And you absolutely would have remembered,” I whispered, “the way that I taste.” I pressed my lips to his, sucking his bottom lip into my mouth, not giving him time to back off. I kept it light, not wanting things to get too heavy. Not when we both had a shift we needed to get through.
His lips were red from mine, and he never looked sexier.
I turned away and left him, not controlling myself to be in his company a minute longer before I lost the control of my patience. As I got to the end of the corridor, his voice rang out, making me stop.
“So, is it your place or mine later?”
I laughed at his cockiness before I carried on walking and left him to get himself ready. This was going to be a long fucking shift.
* * *
It was several hours until we were finishing up.
“I’m hanging,” Robert muttered from down the bar. He was on his knees, filling the under counter fridge back up with juice bottles. “I want my bed.”
“Me too,” I agreed.
He laughed when I said that. “I want my bed to sleep in. You want your bed to do hell knows what in.” He flicked his eyes over to where Freddie was standing with his coat already on. “What are you still doing here? Go. Watching you two stare at each other with Bambi eyes is enough to make me vomit.”
I rolled my eyes at his mock insult. “I owe you, man.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he muttered as I walked to the back room and grabbed my coat. “See you tomorrow.” I walked to Freddie, half expecting his mood to have changed from earlier, back to the one that ran from me but as I approached him, I was happy when he held his hand out for mine with a sexy as sin smile on his face.
