“The answer is no, then. Look at this man, girl. Stop walling yourself in. He’s handsome, well-spoken, dresses well. And looks like he knows his way around a woman’s pleasure. You could do a lot worse. Then again, making a man wait for it can pay off in very delicious ways, too.”
As if expecting him to comment, Raven warned, “One word out of you and you’ll walk home.”
He chuckled and remained silent.
Raven sighed audibly and collected herself. “Etta, we’re here to get him some used clothing.”
“I have some things ready. Let me finish helping that man and his daughter find a pair of shoes, and I’ll be right back.”
She left them.
“Interesting lady, Miss Etta.”
“Having a large family can be exhausting.”
“You don’t say.”
“This isn’t funny, Steele.”
“I never said it was, and since I don’t want you driving off without me, I’ll go look at the fabrics on the shelves over there while she helps her customer.”
“Good idea.”
Not hiding his amusement, he walked away.
