He didn’t need to be a detective to know that she already knew the answer to that question. “Liv.”
She faked a surprised expression. “I didn’t know Liv was seeing anyone.”
Yet you still invited her ex and a plus one to your wedding.
“How did you two meet?” she asked pretending to be genuinely interested when really it was clear she was just trying to find some dirt.
“It was funny actually, she thought I was a stripper and I thought she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen.”
Bridgette blinked at him; this time she really did look surprised. “Oh, wow.”
“Hey!” Liv smiled widely as she joined them.
He took advantage of the fact that they were supposed to be on a real date, wrapped his arm around her, and kissed her. It wasn’t a long kiss, but it was just enough to shut her cousin up. When he broke their kiss, Liv looked dazed, just like she had the night before when he’d left her in her room.
“I missed you,” he said in way of explanation.
“Oh,” Liv breathed out.
“Grady here was just telling me how you met,” Bridgette said, clearly not happy with the fact that they were ignoring her.
Liv looked between her cousin and Grady. “Were you?”
“He said you thought he was a stripper,” Bridgette said reminding him of a mean girl in high school that was trying to start shit.
Liv cringed slightly. “Yeah, I did.”
“And I told her that I thought you were the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”
Now it was Liv’s turn to appear genuinely surprised. “You did?”
“I did.”
This might technically be Bridgette’s big day but Grady was not a fan of the bride, and he didn’t want to waste any more of the precious time he had left with Liv mingling with her.
“It was nice meeting you, Bridgette. Congratulations again.”
“Bye, Bridge, you look beautiful,” Liv said as Grady ushered her onto the dance floor.
Slow music was playing, and he placed his hands on Liv’s hips as she placed hers on his shoulders. “You didn’t have to do or say that.”
He knew exactly what she was referring to but he wanted to hear her say it just so there was no confusion when he answered her. “Do and say what?”
She spoke in a quiet whisper, “You didn’t have to kiss me or say that you thought I was the most beautiful woman you’d ever seen.”
“I wanted to. And it’s the truth.”
Her cheeks flushed and even though he wanted to expand on what else he thought about her, he figured this was a good time to find out more about her.
“So what do you do?”
She stared at him with a blank expression for a minute before chuckling.
“What?” he asked.
“Sorry, it just took me a minute to realize that we never talked about that. It just…it feels like we’ve known each other for…”
“Forever,” he finished.
