I gaped at him. “Uh, what?”

“Yeah, what boss?” Tristan added, his own face aghast at what his president had just suggested.

“Think about it,” Vincent looked to his minions. “We would have a child that comes from two human servants. It would be born with the vampire abilities without the extra negatives that come with it. They would be so much better than just having a single vampire servant. Wouldn't you agree? Then we wouldn't have to worry about those pesky soft feelings towards the vampires that Piper has.”

“You're not getting my baby,” I snapped, moving away from him.

“I don't think you quite understand the position you're in here,” Vincent reminded me, grinning from ear to ear. “You either give me your baby or you give me your life. Either way I'm getting something out of it.”

“That wasn't part of the deal,” I argued with the urge to wring that man’s neck fuck the consequences. “The deal was you get the vampire council and you leave us the fuck alone. You can't back out.”

“I can do whatever I want. I'm the president of the hunters guild. They’ll do whatever the fuck I tell them to do. If I told them to kill you and take your baby then they will. Right?” he shot back to Mizuki and Tristan.

My eyes moved from Vincent over to the two hunters that I had become sort of friends with over the time of working with them. Would they really do it? Would they really kill me and take my baby just because he said so? I couldn't take the risk.

While Vincent wasn't looking, I raised my stake and prepared to plunge it into his back. Tristan's eyes widened, giving me away. Vincent spun around, his hand catching my wrist. He twisted it until I had to release the stake or break my own wrist.

“I wouldn't do that if I were you,” Vincent purred in response with a smug spot expression on his face, knowing that he'd won. “I think I'm going to enjoy having my own child. I've always wanted to be a father. I’ve—” his voice cut off a gurgling sound coming out of his throat. A thin red line appeared along his throat. The zinging of Mizuki’s blade rang through the air.

Vincent's eyes widened in his hand, let go of mine and reached for his throat. Blood poured out of his neck. The touch was all that his brain needed to realize that he had been hurt and moments away from death his face. Brow scrunched up in a scowl and he fell to his knees and then onto his face his head rolling off to the side next to Caleb's.

I stared at Mizuki. “Why did you do that?”

“I might be a vampire hunter but even we don't hurt kids. I wouldn’t wish this life on any of them.” She spat on Caleb's and Vincent's body before spinning on her heels and stalking out of the room. She pushed by Antoine and the others on her way out with not so much as a how do you do.

Tristan stared down at Vincent's dead body for a few moments before he too scurried after her.

The guys piled into the room, their eyes searching for me and then finding the dead bodies between us.

“Wow,” Drake started with a grin. “Looks like we missed one hell of a party. I knew our girl could take care of herself. He stepped over the dead body of Caleb and wrapped his arms around me, kissing me firmly on the lips. “Did you miss us?”

I chuckled and kissed him back. “You have no idea.”
