There.
That's my baby.
Oh my God. That's my baby!
My eyes flipped open and I stared around the room, my mouth open wide as I searched for the guys. My guys.
"I'm going to have a baby," I gasped, and then grinned at them. "We're going to have a baby!"
The others grinned back at me with as much enthusiasm as I had, if not more. I noticed Darren hadn't come in with us but figured I had plenty of time to jump around with him later. Once I got away from the crazies.
Speaking of crazies...
I turned from the guys and said again a bit more slowly, "I'm going to have a baby." I slapped my forehead and sank into a nearby chair, Caleb moving back to his spot. "What the hell am I going to do?"
"I'm not sure what you mean," Tuma asked, stopping before me. "A baby is a joyous thing. Especially one as special as yours. It has to be protected."
"The hunters," I said quickly, turning my eyes up to Antoine. "If they find out I'm pregnant. Especially if it's a superhuman baby, I just know that asshole Vincent will find somewhere to use it."
"Do not worry, Piper." Antoine came toward me with a confident stride. "No one will hurt our baby."
"That's right," Tuma interjected, stepping too close for comfort. "And to make sure you do not fall into the wrong hands I believe it would be best if you stayed with us."
"Now hold on a minute," Drake argued.
Antoine held his hand up. Drake backed off, but just barely.
"Is this a new form of punishment, Tuma? Because I will not let you or anyone else have our baby." The deadly tone in Antoine's voice made me shiver.
Tuma gasped, placing a hand on his chest. "I am offended you would think so little of us. Do you think we would really harm such an innocent thing?"
When the Durands only stared at him, Tuma sighed. "Very well, I swear a blood oath that none of the council members or any of our own will harm your child or the child's mother until after she has been placed back into your protection." He bit into his hand and let the blood flow onto the floor before him.
Odette came over to me and grabbed my hands. "Come on, I'll show you where you will stay."
I stared at Antoine for a moment wondering if this was really happening. I'd been so happy a few minutes ago and once again my life was in danger and not just mine but that of my child. Did I really have a choice in the matter?
The hunters or the council. Now where had I heard that one before?
"Don't worry," Odette held my hand tightly. "I love babies. They're so soft and adorable." She giggled in that high pitched voice of hers and added, "Plus, they taste good too!"
I forced a smile back down at her, while on the inside screaming, "Someone get me the fuck out of here!!"
