Darren didn't say anything.
I thought he might not have been listening, but when I lifted my head, I saw him staring off to the side where Piper was standing by the stairs.
I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "Shouldn't you be resting?"
Piper smiled softly and walked over to me. "I wanted something to eat. Then I heard your little speech."
Ducking my head, I felt my face warm. Was I blushing? I never blushed. What was this woman doing to me?
"You know," Piper moved over to me, sliding her arms around my shoulders. "I think that's the most I've ever heard you talk...like, ever." She giggled and leaned into me, placing her head on top of mine. "Thank you, Marcus. I really needed to hear that."
I placed my hand on top of her arm. “You’re welcome.”
