"If you would spend less time spying on Miss Billings and more time listening to my conversations, then you would know we have bigger problems to worry about." My words caused the two of them to focus on me more fully. "Valentine called."
"Again?" Wynn scoffed. "Tell him to fuck off. We aren't giving him Piper."
I removed my suit jacket and set it over the back of my desk chair near my bed. "This isn't about Piper, at least not entirely."
I thought about what he said as I sat down and removed my shoes. There was no doubt in my mind that the reason our sire wanted to see us after so long was because of Valentine running his mouth about our new employee. Our sire might not be a lover of women, but he never gave up the chance to take something that we wanted for himself, even if it was just to destroy it.
"Come on now, Antoine." Wynn huffed and leaned over the couch. "Don't leave us in suspense. What did the twat want?"
Letting out a long sigh, I turned to him and said, "We've been summoned."
"When?" Marcus asked.
I unbuttoned my shirt as I answered, "Sunday at eight."
Wynn whistled. "He didn’t give us much time to get ready, huh?"
"No," I mused, "but then again. Whenhesays jump, we say—"
"How high? I know. Just wish some vampire hunter would put a stake through that asshole's chest already and save us all the trouble." Wynn let out a dramatic sigh and collapsed on the couch. "We better prepare to leave then. Let our adorable maid know not to miss us too much while we're gone."
"No need for that.” I grimaced. “She's coming with us."
"What?" Wynn sat up straighter as his brows shot to his forehead.
Nodding grimly, I moved over to my bed and laid down. I laced my fingers over my stomach and stared up at the ceiling. I could still hear Piper moving around the house and humming some tune from the radio. "Another one of Valentine's ideas, I'm sure of it."
"We'll have to be careful," Marcus added.
Closing my eyes, I murmured, "Yes, indeed."
