I woke to the sound of knocking. My eyelids fluttered open as a warm pair of arms pulled me tighter. A smile spread on my lips as the events of last night came flooding into my mind.
Of course, the good memories of three rounds of fucking fantastic sex with Alec were followed by the memory of the challenge. I sat up, nearly elbowing Alec in the process.
“What’s wrong?” His voice was groggy.
“I beat the shifter king last night,” I said.
He chuckled. “Yeah, you’re the queen. We already knew that.”
“Right, but that means there are people expecting things from me.” I had ideas. Big ideas. Things I wanted to change, but I wasn’t sure what the protocols were or what hoops I’d need to jump through. Spencer had said he’d help.
I glanced at the clock on the bedside table. It was ten in the morning.Holy shit. They must have ended the party without me and nobody bothered us all night.
I guess there were perks to being the shifter queen.
The knock sounded again and I scrambled off the bed, grabbing a blanket to use as a makeshift toga to get me to the door. I opened it a crack and peeked out.
“Good morning, your highness. Today starts your transition to the throne.” Spencer looked well rested and happy. Something I wasn’t sure I’d ever seen before.
“Um, what does a girl have to do to get an audience with the queen?” A familiar voice called.
Sheila pushed past Spencer, a wide smile on her lips. “Morning, Sunshine. Anything interesting happen last night? I mean, besides taking down the monarchy or the patriarchy or something like that.”
“Of course, I have the fight of my life and snag a rather impressive title and you’re only interested in sex,” I teased.
“I’m not going to deny any of that,” she said as she pushed the door a bit wider.
“I really don’t need the details.” Kyle looked away as he came into view, acting as if he hadn’t seen me naked dozens of times before.
“I agree with him,” Spencer said. “I only need to know the facts.”
“Wow, this is a lot before clothes,” I said.
“Or breakfast,” Alec said as he joined me at the door. He didn’t bother with a blanket.
“I suppose that answers that question,” Spencer said.
“Fucking finally!” Sheila squealed. “I knew it. I called it before either of you figured it out.”
Alec pulled me in close and planted a kiss on my head. “She’s officially off the market.”
“Hey, I have a girlfriend,” Sheila said.
“Alright, so now we got that out of the way. Can we get a few minutes to get dressed?” I asked.
“Oh, no, I am not leaving you two alone in there again. Last night Alec told me he was going to check on you and that he’d come back for the rest of us. He kept you to himself all night,” Sheila said.
James, who had been quietly observing the conversation, cleared his throat. “If the queen desires, we can send someone out to do some shopping.”
“Wait, clean clothes?” I asked. “I can make that happen?”
James looked both a little confused and amused. “Yes, it would be one of the more tame requests we’ve had over the years.”
“Yes, please. Jeans, tee-shirts, and for the love of the Moon Goddess some clean underwear.” I couldn’t believe my luck. Getting clothes that actually fit and actually belonged to me was a luxury I was never going to take for granted again.
It took a few minutes of promising I wasn’t going to spend the rest of the day in the room to get my friends to let me close the door to go find something to wear. I had to admit, the thought was tempting, but we had other things we needed to take care of.
