“This is a terrible idea,” Kyle said. “We should just go end the Tyler problem.”
“Can you guarantee you’ll find him before Spencer needs me to go help him? What if he’s back in Wolf Creek with the others?” I wanted the bond ended, but it wasn’t worth risking my friends. This was my battle, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to fight it with the odds stacked against me. Aside from my wolf wanting to run to Tyler, there was that whole problem around killing your mate.
Kyle growled. “I’m supposed to protect you. I can’t do that if you’re out in the woods with someone else.”
“Alec won’t let anything happen to her,” Sheila said.
“His track record says otherwise,” Kyle spat.
“Hey, enough,” I said.
“Listen, I know I fucked up, but you have to trust me on this. You’re both right. Tyler has to go, but we might not have time right now. You, me, and Shelia can’t go with them when they take on the king.” Alec wore a wicked grin on his lips.
“That’s why you agreed to try this?” I should have known. “You’re going after Tyler while Malcom and I are with Spencer.”
“That’s actually a good idea,” Kyle said.
I didn’t want my friends to risk injury for me, but even I had to admit that three of them together was strong odds. I couldn’t think of any reason why they shouldn’t go after Tyler. The only opposition that came to mind was that I wouldn’t get to help them make him pay for all he did to me. I knew I’d be a liability going after him, though. I had no idea how long I’d be free of the bond in human form, and I couldn’t actually take him out. Things would be so much less complicated if he’d just let me break the bond.
“Did I hear my name?” Spencer walked into the greenhouse.
“What do you even do all day? Just walk around waiting to join conversations you weren’t invited to?” I asked.
He smirked. “You have quite the attitude.”
“Well, we’re kind of dealing with a crisis that has nothing to do with you,” I snapped.
“Good news, you won’t have to wait around much longer. We move against my brother tomorrow night,” he said.
“She’s not ready,” Malcom said.
“I don’t give a shit. It’s our best shot, so we’re taking it,” he replied.
“What makes that night so important?” Sheila asked.
“It’s his birthday. Asshole is bound to have a big, over the top party,” Spencer said.
“What if he chooses something low key?” Malcom asked.
“It seems fitting to throw him out on his birthday, don’t you think?” Spencer smiled as if entertained by the thought.
“It might be worth waiting. Lola’s having an issue with her wolf,” Kyle said.
“Star didn’t spill the news, did she?” Spencer asked.
My brow furrowed and I looked over at the witch. “What is he talking about?”
“You couldn’t let me get past this crisis first?” Star said, turning her blank white eyes on Spencer.
“Keeping you on your toes, I suppose,” Spencer said.
“What is it?” I asked.
“I did some spying on the king,” Star explained.
“You can do that? Like from here?” Malcom’s jaw dropped.
