I squeeze her against me, telling myself my thudding heart is from her closeness, not from my excitement at getting to spend time with her.

“To hell with our exes,” she says.

Burying my face in her neck, breathing in her delicious scent, I don’t have the heart to tell her this isn’t about my ex, that this is solely about her. I rub my nose along her throat. “To hell with everyone but us,” I breathe against her skin.

Unable to help myself, I press a small open mouth kiss along her jaw, feeling her entire body tensing. Worried I went too far too fast, I pull back when Jade’s fingers on my arms stop me. Meeting her gaze, my mouth goes dry at the desire in her eyes.

“Yes, let’s have a good time,” she says softly.

Dipping my head down, at the last moment I change direction, kissing her cheek instead of her lips.

I may be an asshole, but I’m not going to take advantage of a vulnerable woman. I want Jade. However, I need her to come to me.
