CHAPTER NINE

JADE

Waking up, he’s gone and with him goes the magic of the evening. I want to be upset, but neither of us said a word about this being anything more than what it was, two adults giving in to their attraction.

Staggering to the bathroom, I can’t help looking around for Baxter’s clothes or signs that he’s still here. He’s not. The only thing he left behind is the achy place deep inside my vagina where his cock completely owned me.

When I sit down to pee, I can’t help wincing at my full to bursting bladder. I should have taken care of business last night instead of falling asleep on him. He used a condom, so I should be fine. I hope. I want to take home good memories of Baxter and this trip, not a burning UTI.

Briefly I think about a shower but opt to toss on an over-sized t-shirt and a pair of boxers that comprise my bedtime attire before crawling back into bed for some more sleep instead.

I jump when the cabin’s front door bangs open. Baxter probably didn’t make sure it clicked shut when he left. I’m stumbling out of bed and can almost feel the storm cloud of sadness over my head when Baxter steps into the bedroom, a white bag in one hand and a cardboard carrier with two travel mugs in the other.

He came back!

“Hey, sleepyhead,” he says, a wide grin on his handsome face. Dressed in blue athletic shorts and a gray t-shirt, his hair’s a mess of curls and dark stubble shadows his jaw and to me he’s rumbled and sexy.

And mine, a part of me cries out.

Tramping down on that, I walk over to him. “Hi.” I cringe, smooth I am not. Maybe mornings after are always awkward. I wouldn’t know, since this is my first official one after a hookup. Guess I need to get used to this.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m starving,” Baxter says. “Breakfast in bed or at the table?”

“Table. I hate crumbs in bed.”

His deep laugh has my nipples springing to attention. Discreetly, I cross my arms and glance around for my bra. I don’t remember taking it off last night, but when I woke up, I was completely naked.

Baxter comes closer, bringing with him the yummy smell of food and him. Breathing deeply, I wonder if I’m too sore for another round of sex. I also realize I don’t care. It would be worth it.

He switches the bag to the hand with the drinks and plucks something off the dresser behind me. His hand comes from around me, my bra dangling from his fingers. “I figured this would be uncomfortable as hell to sleep in, so I took it off you last night.”

I’m positive I’m as red as a tomato when I take my bra from him. “Thank you.”

I go to head into the bathroom to put my bra on and then figure why bother since he’s already seen everything, anyway. I do turn my back before pulling my shirt up and hooking my bra on. His chuckles echo after him when he leaves.

Once properly supported, I head out to the tiny living/dining area of the cabin. These cabins are awesome, epic views, comfortable beds, amazing bathrooms, but you’re not meant to be in them long. You’re supposed to be out enjoying the activities, dances, dinners, and events. And that shows in the lack of a kitchen or big lounge area. I find Baxter on the couch, with the tiny coffee table pulled over and food spread all over it.

He sees my look and a bit of pink blooms on his cheeks. “I wasn’t sure what you liked.”

“This all looks great!” I enthuse. And it does. He must have ordered the whole menu. Though he forgot plates. We end up passing dishes back and forth, sampling a bit of everything.

I feel like I should say something about last night. Maybe thank him? Instead, I blurt out, “I can’t believe I haven’t seen any of your movies!”

Baxter stills, his big hand reaching for a cup of cut up fruit. His hand drops and his jaw tenses. “Ahhh… you looked me up.” His tone is calm, his eyes hooded.

“It’s not every day that you meet someone famous,” I say.

“When did you do it?”

Lowering my eyebrows, I try to work out what he means. “When what?”

“Did you look me up before or after we had sex?”

Oh! I stare at him in dawning horror. He can’t think… No, it’s obvious that is indeed what he’s worried about. Quickly, I scoot closer to him on the couch. “Baxter, I looked you up before dinner last night. What I saw had no bearing on what happened between us.”

He gives a short jerking nod, clearly doubting me.

“Hey if anything, what I read should have scared me away,” I say, trying hard to stay calm even while anger stirs in me. “Yet here I am.”
