"Yes, and since she is selling, she expressed that there'd be no expense spared."
I chuckled under my breath. "Ya, I've heard that before, then they get the estimate and go with someone half my price," I mumbled, reaching for the notepad and pencil that sat on my desk. What's the address?"
"Half the price and half the quality, remember that."
"Yeah, yeah. What's the address?"
"Are you ready?" She sat there grinning at me like a fool. Either the place wasnice or it was a complete dump.
"Julie, just tell me," I barked.
"Gee, someone's grumpy this afternoon."
"Julie..." I gritted.
"Fine, it's 425 Madison Avenue. Unit 2501."
I wrote as she said the address and then glanced up at her. "You serious?"
"You heard me. You really need to go bid on this."
Without wasting another minute, I reached into my desk and pulled out my portfolio, my measuring tape, and my sample kit and stood up, shutting off the screen on my computer. I had been trying to get into that area of the city for three years. "All right, I'm out of here. As for you, all I will say is that if I am skipping vacation, then I better be home tonight in time to watch the New York Titan's play."
"That's not until nine, it's only four." Julie waved as I walked out the door. "Go get em!"

"Good afternoon, sir,"I heard as I approached the revolving chrome door of 425 Madison Avenue.
"Afternoon." I glanced down at the name tag the gentleman wore. "Charlie."
"Welcome to 425 Madison Avenue, sir."
"Thank you. I'm here to see someone in apartment 2501."
"Ah, yes, Mr. McKay. Wonderful gentleman, although I haven't seen him in a while. Very well, sir."
I entered through the chrome revolving door and walked across the plush carpeting of the lobby. I probably should have worn shoes and not work boots that had been caked in mud, I thought to myself as I looked back and noticed a small trail of mud crumbs. I pressed the button for the elevator and stood there looking around while I waited.
The ding of the elevator tore me from my thoughts, and as the door opened, I went to walk in but stopped in my tracks. Kamden Matlock, center for the New York Titans, stood in front of me. I could barely believe my eyes. I was a huge fan of his, and I could tell the second that he looked at me he knew it.
"Hey, man, afternoon," he mumbled as he stepped out of the elevator and continued by me.
"Afternoon," I said, shocked. I watched as he walked out of the lobby, and that was when I noticed the doors of the elevator starting to close. I quickly stuck my arm between them and stepped into the elevator, pressing the 25th floor button.
Chapter 8
Jessica
I was already sick and tired of having contractors traipse through the place. I'd booked to have all of them come by today, and it had been a busy morning. I was on a limited schedule to get everything done, and since I had already been living in the apartment for a week, I knew that my time was already running out.
I'd needed to live here for a bit to figure out what the place needed before I made any rash decisions. While the place was in great shape, I wanted to get the most I could for the apartment, since I would need that money if I were leaving Kendrick. It hadn't taken me long to decide toupdate the two bathrooms, give everything a fresh coat of paint, and update the kitchen. I also knew that those were the rooms that added the most value.
I glanced at the clock. The last contractor would be here soon. I flipped the kettle on and thought back to the last contractor who had been here. He had walked around the place, looking at everything with a slimy smile on his face, his eyes washing over my body every chance he got. I'd had enough of his behaviour and was just going to ask him to leave when he turned to me.
"Well, miss, it can be done, with money,of course."
"How much?"
