This would be so much easier if she could listen to reason, but humans weren’t especially known for being reasonable. I watched her through my tinted window as we pulled away, and she set the phone down.

Did she even actually call the police?

The idea that she didn’t stuck in my mind. She’d wanted to threaten me enough to leave but didn’t want the trouble of the police on her hands either, so faked it.

She was smart, beautiful, what else could I want?

She could give me children that reflected both of our best qualities, and didn’t have to risk the poverty she lived in.

I didn’t know what kind of woman I had been expecting, but Izzy wasn’t it. No noble blood — hell, no shifter blood at all. Her life was nothing like mine. Somehow, she was perfect.

I had to have her.

As the car turned the corner, I asked my driver to research the hours of the shop.

I was going to have her. I just had to wait a couple more hours.

My mind warred for a moment. This wasn’t right, I couldn’t just snatch up some girl. The dragon in me pushed against my better judgement, and I tried to push back. No, I needed to take my time. If I tried again, tried to explain it to her, maybe she’d listen.

At the same time that wasted valuable moments, minutes, days, weeks, where my brothers and cousins would have to wait too. If I took my time taking her, then they’d have to deal with waiting for theirs. The dragon within me pushed again, and I gave in.

She was mine.
