“Got you the best suite on board, man. You’re gonna love it.”

Glancing over the photos of beautiful Caribbean islands, Jake began to feel a lessening of tension, a relaxing in his muscles and his stomach juices stopped with the constant eruptions. Peace, quiet, surrounded by the ocean, what better way to find himself again.

A slammed door in the distance woke him from his visit to the past. Dressed casually in a pair of slacks and a dark suit jacket, his white shirt open at the neckline, he felt comfortable and more like his old self than he’d experienced for a long time.

Way back in the early days when he’d started on this new app, oft times eighteen hours out of twenty-four, he never wore anything but ripped jeans and T-shirts. Leo had been lucky to get him to eat one meal a day besides the ginormous cups of coffee he’d consumed. He’d have to be forced to leave their apartment, and they’d had many a battle. Obsessed with his designs and formatting, he’d been addicted. But those grueling months had paid off. Once the government had acknowledged the need for his invention, life had changed completely.

Unfortunately, private companies decided they too wanted the app and how much easier it would be to just have him share his invention or steal it rather than hiring someone to invent their own.

More than once he’d had to battle his way out of danger and Leo had had his back a number of those times. Should he think of them as the good old days? Not a chance. He just hoped that now that they’d landed the contract with National Defense, and he’d handed over all but the final design’s computations, he could stop having to look over his shoulder.

Hopefully the Russians, and in another case, Chinese assassins who’d tried to take him prisoner would stop their pursuit.

What had forced him on this trip were the interested parties who knew his phone app could bring in billions to the right buyer, and they weren’t so easily persuaded to leave him alone.

Shaking off his moody reverie, he washed and cared for the scratch on his face with the emergency kit supplies Carlos had thoughtfully delivered. Then pocketing his cell phone, he left the room.
