“You seem exhausted. I…I don’t know if it’s a good idea for you to drive back to Clover City.”
Vance shrugged, beefy shoulders going up to his ears, face scrunching like he was trying to swallow the latest yawn. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry about me. I’m not gonna…”
He waved toward the bed and Lilith felt her cheeks flush.
“Besides, I pulled so many all-nighters in law school sleep deprivation was like a second degree.”
“Okay, but I feel like that was probably a while ago?”
Vance blinked at her and then let out a big laugh that sounded like it came from his belly. “Did you just call me old?”
She had to bury her cringe behind a hand. Because yeah. But also, the man did not look like he was in his twenties. Not even his thirties she didn’t think. She should’ve checked his birthday when she’d had his license but she’d been too flustered. She could look at the pic she’d snapped later. Why did it matter anyway? It’s not like there was going to be anything between them so who cared how old he was?
“Not exactly. But also, I’m being serious. You shouldn’t drive when you’re nodding off. I don’t want to be responsible for you wrapping your car around a tree trunk or driving into a ditch. And this is your house for fuck’s sake. I would feel like a real asshole if you got hurt or killed.”
Vance blinked at her. “I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”
“Then don’t be a pervy, presumptuous dick for brains, leave my bat alone, and we’ll get along fine.”
