Holy shit. She’d done it. He’d wanted her to, but it wasn’t up to him. Court cases like that could be brutal especially when it was the son of the mayor and his buddies you were accusing and he wasn’t going to put her in that position if she wasn’t willing.
She grinned at him and tipped her nose in the air, made her voice very snooty. “You can expect a call from my attorney.” And then she was back to her sweet little self. “Since you’re a witness and all.”
“Of course. I’ll do anything I can to help, anything at all.”
“I also filed a restraining order against Wade and against the boys just in case. They haven’t bothered me, but I don’t want them to, especially with pressing charges and all.”
“That was smart.”
She shrugged again, looking flustered but pleased. “Marni and Eric helped.”
Gunnar bet they had. And he bet he knew which firm they’d gone to to find her an attorney too. Tyndall, Soames, and Yardley had a reputation for attorneys with a talent for discretion, and not a soul working there would blink an eye about issues in the ageplay community.
“Lawyers are really expensive. Are you okay for money?”
“Marni and Eric are friends with Mr. Tyndall. He took my case pro bono. How do they know all these people?”
Gunnar smirked. “Same way I know Eric and Marni.”
Twyla’s mouth fell open. “They’re all daddies and mommies?”
“Some of them might be littles instead, but yeah.”
“Huh.” Twyla looked into the middle distance, her brows creasing as she seemed to process this news for a minute.
He held his breath for as long as he could but he couldn’t wait anymore. “I don’t want to rush you, and you can tell me you need more time or anything else, but did you come here to just give me an update and you’re going to go back to Marni’s or did you maybe want to, I don’t know, come back to me?”
The wicked little girl smiled at him, probably knowing she had him wrapped around her little finger. That was fine, because he was. She had his heart and he wouldn’t deny it. As long as she realized he would still be the one in charge for the most part; taking her over his knee when she misbehaved, putting her to bed when she was tired, and making sure she was healthy.
“I want to come back to you, Daddy. If you forgive me for leaving and not telling you why. I’ve missed you so much and I—”
Twyla’s mouth snapped shut and she flushed a deep, charming red.
“You what, little girl?”
“I know we weren’t together very long and I don’t want you to feel like I’m asking for too much too soon, but I…I never want to leave you again.”
“Then don’t,” he said before he pressed a searing kiss to her lips.
