“Yes, he will.” A sudden flurry of movement made us both jump.
“You two-timing slut!” Anna flew at me, but Salvo grabbed her by the shoulders, hauling her away from me. “What the hell is she doing here?” Anna spat.
“She…” he barked and pushed her back hard, causing her to stumble. His tone suddenly went dark. “Is Theodore’s daughter.”
“Bullshit!”
“It’s true.”
“So help me God,” she stuck a finger in my face, “if I have to live under the same roof as you again, I will lose it.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have switched sides so quickly.” I stepped toward her, tired of Anna already. Please don’t tell me she was the mystery guest the staff was referring to.
“What did you say?”
“Don’t act dumb, Anna. It’s unbecoming.”
She lunged at me, but Salvo was ready for it and again pushed her backward.
“Anna, enough. No more.”
“Wait.” She looked between the two of us and closed her eyes with a curse. “Of course.” She laughed then said in a high-pitched voice, “Let me guess. You two are dating.”
“Anna, you and I tried to date, and it didn’t work.” He shrugged. “Then you moved on to Stefano. I’m not hanging around anymore.” His phone rang, and he gave her a warning to stay away from me. “Hello? Yeah, what’s up?”
“Wow!” I chuckled, wanting to fuel her up even more. If I could make her freak out and the uncles were near, they’d see their grandson’s girlfriend was just as much of a loose cannon as Stefano was.
“You’ve something more to say?” She stepped closer as I gathered my belongings and moved, hoping to draw her toward the patio door.
“No.”
“No?” Her pointy cheekbones flushed, and I fought a smile as I stepped inside. “You don’t get to play the little innocent act here, Sienna. You don’t have them wrapped around your finger like you did the Capris.” One of the soldiers who often hovered around me looked Anna up and down, and she flashed him a smile even as she was spewing her hate toward me.
“You just spread your legs for anyone with a pulse,” I whispered and saw her hand pull back to slap me.Whack. It stung and made my eyes water, but I just stood there holding her gaze. “You were nothing at the Capris’ and you’re nothing here.” I heard the click of the cane and Pippo’s voice.
“Once again, Anna, your only skill is jumping from one bed to the next,” I quickly threw at her.
“Ahh!” She lunged at me, and we tumbled to the floor. As hard as it was not to punch or kick her, I just covered my head while she attacked me like the savage she was.
“What on Earth!” Nonna yelled, and Pippo grabbed Anna and tossed her into a chair.
“Are you mad, woman?” he yelled at her. “Do you know who you were just assaulting?”
“She’s a liar and slept with your enemy!” she cried to anyone who would listen. “I don’t care if she’s the Pope, she can’t be here!”
“That’s not your choice,” he snapped at her, “and you can very easily be replaced yourself.”
I sat up as footsteps approached and pulled my hair away from my face, then accepted the hand Salvo offered.
“What’s going on?” Ugo took a step toward me but stopped himself at the last second.
“She’s a Capri!” Anna snarled.
“I can promise you that she’s very much a Coppola,” he said darkly. “I know because I hand-delivered her here myself, right from her mother.”
Salvo rubbed my back, and I caught Ugo’s motion for me to go upstairs. His face looked ticked off, though I knew he was just acting the part.
“Excuse me,” I muttered, holding my sore jaw. It had taken two solid blows from Anna’s wild swings.
