If he didn’t come back, I’d get mad later. For now, I’d probably nap.

My eyes were drifting shut when my door opened and closed again. Lachlan crouched beside me, moving my hair off my face. He grinned and leaned in to kiss the tip of my nose.

“I brought you coffee. The ice is a little melted now, but I think it’s still drinkable. Want to try it?”

Rolling to my back, I pushed myself upright. I was super naked while Lachlan was back in his clothes. I didn’t usually mind being naked, but I felt the need to cover up after being so vulnerable.

I held my hand out. “Can you grab my pajamas please?”

He rose, finding my discarded clothes, and handed them to me. I slipped them on while he watched unabashedly. I crinkled my nose at him. He laughed and picked up the coffee he’d brought to my room.

The ice was mostly melted, but I still drank it because the gesture had been so unexpected. Plus, I needed to do something with my mouth while I thought of what to say.

Lachlan settled on the other side of the bed with his own drink. The distinct green color made me smile. I’d hooked him on matcha apparently.

“You okay?” he asked.

I nodded, playing with my straw. “My butt is sore.”

“Poor baby.”

I snorted. “You don’t sound sorry at all.”

He smirked at me. “As long as you’re okay and you liked it, then no, I’m not sorry. Are you sorry it happened?”

I lifted a shoulder. “I don’t know if I learned my lesson, but I don’t regret any of it.”

Blowing out a heavy breath, he shoved his fingers through his messy hair. “I’m going to have to take you across my lap a lot, aren’t I?”

Biting down on my lip, I raised my delighted eyes to his. “I bet it’ll be a real hardship for you.”

His hand shot out, grabbed my nape, and yanked me in for a hard kiss. “If I didn’t want a challenge, I wouldn’t be here.”

He was so damn good at this. No wonder poor Emily had looked so lost. It wasn’t just sex he was incredible at. The way Lachlan spoke, the things he said, were tailor made for me. I couldn’t help wondering if he’d been like this with other women or if we just happened to click.

No. I didn’t want to know. Thinking about Lachlan with other women threatened to burst my sex bubble, and I wasn’t ready to leave it behind just yet.

I changed the subject.

“You were out getting me coffee this morning?”

“I was. I thought I’d find you on your deck and maybe you’d invite me to stay.”

“One thing you should know about me is I’m terrible at waiting for things to happen.”

“Noted.”

I took another sip of my watery iced coffee. Kind of gross, but I liked the man and gesture enough to power through.

“By the way, when I heard you talking to your sister, it sounded like you were talking to a girlfriend. I was seconds away from eviscerating you.”

He put his matcha down on the bedside table. “Damn. I guess I should feel thankful I’m still walking around with my guts intact. It never crossed my mind that it would sound like that to you.”

“To be fair, you didn’t know I was listening, but I did warn you I’m irrationally jealous.” Giving up on my drink, I set it down and twisted to face Lachlan. He looked really, really good in my bed. “Your conversation sounded intense.”

“All my conversations with Saoirse are intense. I think that’s how seventeen-year-old girls are.”

My eyes widened, and I blew out a breath. “Consider yourself lucky you didn’t know me at seventeen. But Saoirse doesn’t seem anything like the bloodthirsty cheerleader I used to be.”
