Chapter Nineteen
Elena
Therewasguminmy hair. Not at the bottom either. A huge wad of gum was lodged in the very center of the back of my head. I was fuckity fucked.
Throwing open the front door of my house, I screamed. “My hair! They fucked with my hair!”
No one was home, so I was screaming to the walls, because of course. It was probably for the best that Zadie and Helen missed my tantrum anyway. They would laugh at me forever if they saw me throwing all the pillows off the couch and kicking them around the living room.
I was just about to let loose another scream of fury when the door burst open. Lachlan filled the doorway. His head swiveled until he found me, surrounded by a pile of throw pillows, probably looking as manic as I felt.
“I heard screaming.” He prowled toward me, his focus so intent, I was pinned in place. “Are you hurt? What happened?”
Oh no. This was worse than Zadie and Helen witnessing my fit. Far worse. I wanted this man to fuck me, not put a pacifier in my mouth.
But dammit, I was pissed off, and if I didn’t destroy a few things, I’d explode.
“I’m not hurt, I’m furious.” I kicked another pillow, sending it flying at Lachlan. He caught it with one hand, putting it gently on the couch. When had he rounded the sectional? How had I not noticed him moving?
“Come here,” he commanded.
I crossed my arms and shook my head. “I’m not done destroying things.”
He beckoned me closer, his arm outstretched. “Get over here, Elsa.”
“I’m too angry to come there. Go away so I can let out my anger in private. You don’t need to see this.”
He jabbed at the floor in front of him. “I’m not arguing. If I have to come get you, I’ll make good on my promise.”
“What promise?”
His brow lowered. His eyes went impossibly dark, giving him a menacing air that sent a thrill down my spine. “Gonna light that defiant ass up, El. Spank all the sass and venom out of you.”
My toes curled into the hardwood below him. My entire body listed in his direction. I would have gone to him, let him set me straight, but then I remembered the gum in my hair—and there was nothing sexy about that.
“I can’t,” I whined.
“You can. Let me make it better.”
I took a step. Then another. “You can’t spank me right now. I’m not up for that.”
His chin dipped as he tracked me crossing the room. “Then I won’t. You need to come here anyway and tell me what’s making you murder pillows.”
This man. This man, this man, this man. He made it really hard to hate him, even though I sort of wanted to. I thought for sure he’d follow me inside when he drove me home after Spanish yesterday—especially when he kept his hand high on my thigh the whole ride.
But Lachlan Kelly wasn’t easy.
He’d pulled up in front of my house, opened the door for me, and pecked my nose.
Pecked my motherflipping nose. And wouldn’t you know it, my dumb ass nearly swooned, it was so adorable.
Since when did I do adorable?
Since this big, beautiful man gave it to me, that’s when.
What he didn’t give me was theD. After that peck, he informed me he had to go back to campus to work. I’d had to hold myself back from slapping him.
Yes, Lachlan turned me into a maniac.
