“Yes. I’m a Savage River townie.”

He smirked. “That’s right. You and Helen went to high school together.”

“Yes. She knew me at my best.”

His big shoulder went up. He must’ve heard stories. “People change.”

I crossed my fingers. “Here’s hoping. Anyway, that was my last coffee delivery, so—”

That snapped him out of his laid-back routine. “That’s not how this works. I said a week. You agreed to it.”

“This is the end of the week,” I argued.

“Except the bet began on Tuesday. Wednesday was your first drop-off. I get seven coffees.”

I shook my head. “No. This is the last day of the week. I’m all done.”

His head tipped to the side as he scrutinized me from head to toe. “Are you really backing out of a bet? I didn’t think that was your style.” With a shake of his head, he turned to head for the porch. “See you later, Elsa.”

Groaning, I kicked at a rock on the path. “I know what you’re doing.”

He waved at me over his shoulder before bending to pick up his frap. “I’m just going inside to drink my coffee monstrosity.”

I flipped his back off. He chuckled like he knew what I had done.

“Fine. I’ll be here tomorrow with your stupid coffee, and that’s only because I don’t want you holding anything over my head, notbecause you’re right.”

I swiveled on my toes before he could gloat. I went exactly three steps before I had to bite my tongue to stop myself from screaming. Why did this man continually get under my skin? All it took was a look, and I was acting like an imbecile.

No more.

I had to take control of the situation.

Lachlan might claim he’s not playing games with me, but that was exactly what he was doing. Toying with the snooty rich girl next door for his own amusement.

I was no one’s entertainment.
