I shoved his hand off me, though I was bereft when it was gone. “You should. I won’t ever trust you again.”

He hummed and turned on the radio. “You can pick the station if you want.”

“You’re unbelievable,” I bit out.

“Pick the station, Elena.”

I turned the music off and pressed my face against my window. Lachlan Kelly could suffer the rest of this ride in silence. He didn’t deserve music.

As soon as he pulled into his driveway, I flew out of the truck and nearly face-planted. Righting myself, I ran up the steps to my porch. Lock followed me. As I fumbled with my keys, he came up behind me and took them, calmly inserting the right one and unlocking my door.

“You forgot this.” He handed me my backpack, his lips curving.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“I’m not going to stop, Ellie. As far as I’m concerned, you’re mine. You never stopped being mine. But I need you to decide on me too. I’m not going to stop until you do.”

I rose on my toes so I could look him square in the eye. “I. Don’t. Believe. You.”

Then I closed the door, hoping he’d do like I asked for once and go away.
