“It’s not,” he said. “I think that it will give us a starting point. There will be lots of chopping and I can teach you a few skills,” he offered.

“Okay, but I have to tell you that I’m a little bit of a lost cause when it comes to chopping and skills in the kitchen.” She grabbed a cutting board out of the cupboard and put it on the countertop. “Ready,” she said. Kai looked so serious, that he almost wanted to laugh.

“Cooking is fun, honey,” he insisted.

“Sure, it’s fun when you are good at cooking. For someone like me, it’s torture.”

“If that’s the case, why did you take the college class?” he asked.

“Well, I thought that they would teach me more than they expected me to already know,” she said. “I mean, they didn’t go over the basics—they just thought that we would all know them, but I never really had anyone who taught me to cook. My mother really never taught me anything except her specialty—TV dinners. And I guess I never took an interest in learning to cook.”

“I think I can help with all of that,” he offered. “I’ll have you chopping and understanding the basics in no time.”

“Thanks, Taz,” she said. “I really appreciate this.” Taz nodded and pulled out his pots and pans. He could still show her the basics and get home at a reasonable hour to enjoy the rest of his night off. At least, that was still his plan.
