“So, you know that you’re taking a chance bringing this other guy around him, right? Taz might tear your college boy apart,” Harlow warned.

“I highly doubt that,” Kai said. “That would mean that he actually cares about me, and he’s made it very clear that he doesn’t.”

“I’m calling bullshit on that one,” Harlow said. “I heard how he made you scream his name. If he wasn’t into you, he would have never done that. He wants you, Kai, he’s just being a stubborn ass.” Kai hoped like hell that her friend was right, but she worried that she was going after someone who’d never feel the same way about her as she felt about him.

“If you’re right, then my plan might just work,” Kai insisted.

“Or it will end in an epic fail and Taz ripping college boy’s limbs from his body,” Harlow teased. “It’s a toss-up.”

“You’re enjoying this a bit too much,” Kai grumbled. “Listen, I came in early to ask you to schedule my break for seven. I wanted to beat the other requests so that I can have dinner with Gabe,” Kai said.

“His name is Gabe?” Harlow asked. “He sounds like a douche. Taz is going to tear him apart. I’m in—I’ll stay and cover your tables while you have dinner with Gabe. I don’t want to miss a second of this mess.”

“Seriously,” Kai grumbled, “what would I do without you, Harlow?”

“You’ll never have to find out,” Harlow insisted. “Besides, what are friends for? Even though I like to give you shit, I’m on your side. We’ll figure this Taz thing out; he just needs a good knock in the head or something.” She had thought about just clubbing over the head and insisting that he come to his senses, but Kai knew that it wasn’t that easy. Taz was going to give her a fight at every turn, and she just needed to stay one step ahead of him.
