“Not a problem,” he said. “You just need to tell me how you want to playthings with them.” She wanted to tell the kids that she had fallen for him because she had, but Rainey thought that she might need to tell Slater that first. He’d spent just about every night with her over the past month and a half, and in that time, she’d gotten used to him. The only problem was that the kids still thought that Slater was just a friend who occasionally stopped in to check on her for Aunt Beck and Uncle Knox. They had no idea how she really felt about him because for so long, she wasn’t sure how she felt about Slater.

“I want to tell them the truth,” she almost whispered.

“Which is?” he asked. He looked almost as nervous as she felt about this whole conversation.

“Do we have to do this now?” she asked.

Slater checked his watch and nodded. “You have twenty minutes until the kids get home from school. I’d say that now is as good a time as any,” he said.

“Fine,” she spat. “I’d like to tell them that I’ve fallen for you. That I want you to move in with us and there’s no way that you’ll be sleeping on that sofa,” she said, pointing over to the couch where her toddler was still sitting.

“See,” he breathed, crowding her space, “was that so difficult to admit?”

She pushed at his chest, not moving him a bit. “You’re an ass,” she said, with no real heat.

“I’ve been told,” he taunted, pulling her against his body. “And for the record, honey, I’ve fallen for you too.”

“You have?” she asked.

“Yes,” he admitted. “Do you want for me to be in the room when you talk to the kids?” he asked.

She shrugged, “At first,” she said. “I think that they should see us present a united front. But then, if they have questions, maybe you could play with Ella or something.”

“Sounds like a plan,” he said. “I’m going to have my guys call the sedan showing up again in to the authorities. We need to have a paper trail on this guy. Then, I’m going to have one of them run back to the penthouse to grab some of my things for me. I won’t leave you, Rainey,” he promised.

“Thank you, Slater,” she whispered, “for everything.”

He nodded, “Anytime, honey.”
