And that’s how he found himself holding her with her legs spread around him. They ground together as their tongues met and swirled around each other. His hands shifted so that he cupped her lush bottom and squeezed, thinking how much Walker would love to feel her like this.
He’d always been the ass man of the two of them.
Aside from her eyes, Dane had a thing for her breasts, which were fuller than he remembered and also mashed against him as they made out with abandon.
Joy kneaded his shoulders. He was certain that if they’d been naked she would have sank her sharp little nails into the flesh there, driving him to stop thinking and simply react the way his body—and heart—always did to her.
She undulated against him, simulating the sex they’d had that night he’d never forget. The one where she’d rocked his world and ruined both him and Walker for threesomes with anyone else.It had been a record dry spell for them.At least with other people. They’d remained exclusive to each other, realizing no one else could make them feel the way this woman had when she’d bared herself to them and let them have all of her.
Her generosity meant even more to him now that he knew they’d been her first lovers.
If Dane had his way, it would be Walker instead of the tree behind him.
He spun around, leaning Joy up against the imposing pine and pinning her body between it and him.The moan that echoed through the forest made Dane sure that Joy remembered just as clearly as he did what it had been like when she’d been trapped between him and his best friend.Walker hadn’t taken it easy on her, or on Dane, commanding that they perform for him and refusing to stop fucking them both until he’d smashed every last illusion of civility between them.
Dane kissed Joy now like he had then.Like he’d always wanted to when they’d been too young to know how to do it right. They’d both grown and gotten so much better at it.He used every ounce of finesse he had to bring her pleasure, and it seemed to work.
Joy cried out his name, took a sharp breath, then went back for more.
She devoured him.
Pouring herself into the exchange, she granted him as much ecstasy as she took.
Dane was so absorbed in Joy and the way she made him feel, as if he was still racing over the pavement even though they were standing still, he lost track of their surroundings. In the back of his mind, he might have heard something, but he ignored it in favor of continuing to drown in the pleasure Joy brought him.
Until it grew loud enough that he had to give the racket his full attention.
And that’s when he realized that someone was coming straight for them, charging through the brush. They weren’t even trying to be subtle about it.
He blinked, trying to get his bearings. They didn’t have enough time to make it to Joy’s bike.Whoever it was would be on them before they could reach the shiny café racer and start the engine.
An image of Joy, shot in the back and crashing to the cold forest floor, sent chills down his spine.
Instincts took over.He grabbed Joy and shoved her behind him, spinning so that she was blocked from whoever was approaching rapidly by his body and the giant tree they’d been making out under.
Fuck! How could he have been so reckless?
Dane braced himself, balling his fists, raising them and spreading his legs.It wasn’t much but he was trained in hand-to-hand combat, both by his experiences hanging around Wildfire and the military drills that had honed his natural capabilities.
Except it would be pretty dumb to punch a deer.Especially the enormous buck that launched itself over the trunk of a fallen pine and kept sprinting right past them, chased by who knew what.
Behind him, Joy chuckled.“Wait until I tell Walker you were ready to fight a buck.”
Dane wasn’t laughing. He wished he could pummel himself instead. When the hell was he going to learn how to take care of Joy properly? What if it had been Arden he’d put at risk?
“We should head back,” Dane mumbled, already marching off toward the motorcycle they’d left in plain view on the side of the road.
How had he allowed himself to be so irresponsible with Joy’s safety?Anyone could have come across them there out in the open, while he made them vulnerable—both to attack and to another colossal fuck up that would tear them apart. This time for good.
He’d only proven, once again, that he was worthless when it came to looking out for Joy and what was in her best interests.
“Dane…” She reached for him, but let her fingers drop when she realized he’d already mentally retreated.Same as always.
They were doomed to repeat the same cycle over and over.Only he wasn’t certain his heart could take it anymore.“Let’s go.We’ve been gone too long already.Walker will be worried.”
“About you, not me.”Joy deflated.Every last sparkle of mischief that had twinkled in her eyes while they kissed had been snuffed by his stupidity.“You’re right.I should check on Arden.”
Without another word, they got on her bike. She checked both ways carefully before pulling onto the road.Joy stayed just under the speed limit, perfectly cautious and controlled, as they wound their way back to Hot Rides.
Unlike he had on the way to the woods, Dane made sure to keep a buffer of space between him and Joy so she couldn’t tell that even after all that chaos, his body still wished things could be different.
Too bad his brain knew better.
