Ace then grabbed my hand, signing the book before shoving the door open and pulling me out after him.

“How did you know?”

“I mindlinked Mitchell to ask what happened. He saw it, but you ran off before he could get to you,” Ace said, squeezing my fingers. “He wouldn’t tell me his name, though,” Ace said, but I shook my head.

“Lucy?” Ace said, but I ignored him. “If you wanted to go to school, why didn’t you tell us? This wouldn’t be an issue at our pack school.”

“I don’t want people to be nice because of who I am mated with, Ace,” I told him. He sighed, tugging me closer and draping his arm across my shoulders before kissing my head.

“Looks like I will get you for a few days,” he said, and I looked up to say no. “What excuse you got this time? You won’t be busy,” he said, and I closed my mouth before nodding.

“Mom is in labor,” I told him.

“I know. Ryker rang this morning when he was picking up Rayan, and asked if you could stay with us,” he said. Was I the only one that didn’t know?

And why couldn’t I go home just because Amanda was out? We walked out to his car in the staff parking lot. I groaned when I saw Tyson leaning against Ace’s car. He looked like the god he was. Well, both of them did, though, Tyson was wearing a white shirt with jeans while Ace wore a black one, both drool-worthy, and I found myself excited to go with them, especially after this morning and mom’s weird mood.

“Not happy with you. Jacob woke me up. Why didn’t you wake me? I would have taken you to school.”

I shrugged.

“Come on, then. We will run you home to grab some stuff, then you are staying with us for a few days,” Tyson said, and I nodded before opening the back door and climbing in.

Chapter twenty-nine

Icouldn’tremainstill.Rayan had sneakily left the mindlink open to me so he could tell me what was going on. He also confessed he didn’t tell me straight away because dad and mom were watching him like a hawk. I didn’t get it, and Rayan didn’t either. Neither of us could understand why I wasn’t allowed to come.

“I don’t get Amanda anymore. She is different and doesn’t even want me here. They nearly had to sedate mom to get her to the pack hospital,” Rayan told me.

Mom hated the hospital, I knew that much. She refused doctors or anyone in a lab coat. “Let me know when she has him,” I told him.

“Of course, Lucy. You will be the first person I tell,” he said, just as excited, but I could hear his worry.

“I will let you go. It has been hours, and you must be getting tired, holding the link open for so long,” I told him.

“Okay, I will mindlink as soon as I know what’s going on,” he said before cutting the link.

“No baby still?” Ace asked, watching me pace. I shook my head.

“Lucy, sit down. Rest for a bit,” Ace said, patting the spot next to him. I looked at him.

“Lucy, come sit. Sitting down with me doesn’t mean you have to forgive me. Just rest. Rayan will tell you when your brother is born,” Ace said just as Tyson walked out of his bedroom, his hair still wet from having a shower.

“Any news?” Tyson asked, though I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his exposed chest, abs and the deep V-line that escaped into the waistband of his sweatpants.

“Lucy?” Tyson said, and I shook my head.

“What?” I asked.

“I said, is there any news?”

I shook my head, looking away from him to find Ace smirking at me before he shook his head. My cheeks flushed, knowing he’d just busted me checking his brother out, while Tyson seemed oblivious, thank god.

“Hungry? What do you want to eat?” Tyson asked, walking past me and into the kitchen.

“Pretty sure she wants to eat you,” Ace said, and I turned to glare at Ace. “What? You were the one eyeing him like he was a piece of meat,” Ace said before shrugging.

My face got hotter with embarrassment.
