“I’m gonna kill him,” Atticus growled in my head, yet all I could do was watch. I had no point in living without her, my mind numb at what I had witnessed, the way she looked at me. Her heartbeat was forever ingrained in my memory with the way it abruptly stopped.

Aamon and I moved Avery into the same room as Reika and my brother so I could watch over all of them while Aamon traveled to the underworld. It confused me, but he explained it was some strange voodoo meditation that would allow him to remain here while his soul traveled between realms.

“Ready?” I asked him. Aamon moved to the spare bed we had dragged in and was just about to lie down when Avery suddenly gasped and sat up abruptly, nearly making me jump out of my skin.

“Avery?” Aamon jumped off the bed, rushing to her side. Her eyes were wide open, and her lips were moving quickly, muttering in some foreign tongue, but her eyes were white. Aamon clutched her face in his hands.

“Babe? What do you see?” he said, shaking her gently when she gripped his hands, her eyes returning to the emerald green I was used to.

“Avery?” he whispered.

“The earth will bleed,” she whispered. My brows furrowed at her words.

“The what?”

“The earth will bleed, and so will she, for she touched my hybrids,” Avery said. Aamon and I both stared at her, trying to make sense of her words, when pain rippled through my chest, making me clutch it. My knees buckled, and Tyrant howled in my head.

“Lucy!” I choked out before feeling the bond sever. A scream left my lips as unbearable pain ripped at my soul and tore my heart from my chest. Pure agony when Avery was suddenly beside me, her hand over my heart, and Aamon hovered behind her like he was worried she would drop dead like my mate just did.

“Lucy!” I gasped, and Avery nodded sadly. I felt her hand warm against my chest, the pain receding when we heard another gasp turned feral growl, making my eyes dart to the two other beds in the room. Ryker’s remained the same, the machine breathing for him, and the soft beeping of the devices attached to him was loud in the quiet room. Looking at Reika, she was staring at me, only it wasn’t Reika, her eyes a demonic black, and her canines protruded. A look of pure evil had her nose wrinkle before Amanda growled.

“Reika?” I choked out, holding back tears.

She turned her head, observing me for a second before looking at her hand, and Avery rose to her feet.

“How is she awake when Ryker isn’t?” Aamon asked the question I was thinking.

“Hello, Amanda.” Avery smiled.

“Where is my daughter?” Amanda said, her voice raspy when she moved with blinding speed. Avery put a hand on her chest as she went to dart from the room.

“Power to the wolf,” Avery said.

Amanda laughed. “No power needed, witch. I like to kill with my bare hands. Now, who am I killing first?”

Alpha Jamie paced while he waited for Beryl to come back with Emily. Ryden cried out, and I glanced over at him as Jamie wandered over to the crate where he was lying. He rubbed his tummy before pushing his pacifier in his mouth that had fallen out to quiet him. I tracked his movements.

“So, what’s next? You get my nephew to mark your daughter, and you think everything will just go to plan? That you will somehow be allowed to live when my brother comes for you?”

Alpha Jamie turned on his heel to look over at me, and Melana groaned on the ground, pushing off the filthy floor with her hands. She shook her head, looking around when Jamie rushed over and kicked her in the head. She put her hands out, blocking it, and the force of his kick shoved her to her feet.

I growled at him when he punched her, knocking her down to her knees again with speed she didn’t see coming the second time.

“I suggest you don’t test me, girl,” he warned her. I growled at him, and his eyes darted to me before they went to Lucy, dead in her chair. Melana cupped her mouth in shock before she looked over at me, and her bottom lip quivered. I shook my head. I already knew how dead my mate was; she didn’t need to point it out. Ryden cried again, and Jamie walked over to him.

“Damn babies, never stop crying.”

“I’ll take him,” Melana offered, rushing over, and Jamie glared at her but didn’t stop her. Rayan growled at her beside me, and I shook my head at him. Melana might be many things, but a baby killer wasn’t one of them.

She cradled him in her arms while sitting on a crate. Melana knew to keep her mouth shut, she had always been able to read a room, and she knew the only way out of this, for now, was playing along and that’s what I intended to do when I felt a flutter in my chest.
