Aodhan frowned at her. “This is your normal self. You’ve always had this power, deep down. Why in Herne’s name would you want to bury it?”

“Because I’m just me!” She waved a hand at herself, unable to believe that he couldn’t see the issue. “Plain, ordinary Cathy. I can’t go around covering whole rooms in roses back in the real world.”

“From what I understand of the human world, the place could do with more roses.”

“Aodhan, you are not taking this seriously.” Another thought struck her. “Wait. If I’m a sorcerer, would Kevin be one as well?”

Aodhan’s eyebrows winged up. “It’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Hmm. That would explain why the seelie went to such lengths to snatch him. And perhaps even why the unseelie abducted him in the first place.”

Her gut twisted. If that was true… if it was her unsuspected magic that had made Kevin a target, her that had put him at risk…

“Cathy.” He touched her hand—just the briefest brush of his fingertips, but she felt that electric spark of magic. “Your powers are a good thing, not a problem. The ritual succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. Your aura is so bright with magic, any fae will assume that you were raised from infancy by a powerful court. Now, we just need to complete your disguise.”
