Pyro takes my hand, and we lead the way back across the hospital floor. I stop in front of the doctor and reach into Pyros pocket, pulling out his money clip.
“Nothing is broken but you might want to replace the door.” I hand her 5 one-hundred-dollar bills and go to walk away.
“Ma’am, the door will not cost this much.” She is looking at the money like she hasn’t seen $500 dollars in cash before.
“Oh, I know. Consider the rest a favor from the club. Thank you for taking care of her, and for being so attentive. When can she leave?”
“She needs to remain on the antibiotic drip until tomorrow and there is another pill that she will have to take in the morning, and then she will be on a prescription for 10 days. So, she will be released tomorrow afternoon.”
“Is she at risk of infection?”
Her face falls and I see tears gather at the corner of her eyes, “Its precautionary, but it’s also sterilizing her. killing any… sperm that might still be in her body and the pill in the morning is her second Plan B, just to be safe.” There is a struggle behind me, and the doctors eyes get huge as she takes a step back.
“You already damaged a door, let’s go back to Zoe so maybe you will stop trying to break things.” Tough has Hollow in a chokehold and is dragging him down the hall when I turn back to the Doc.
“I’m sorry, maybe I should have spoken to you alone.” The doctor’s voice is low and she moves farther away from the guys.
“Don’t worry about it, he is a just a little volatile right now. My name is Finley,” I put my hand out to her and she shakes it.
“Dr. Donna Wilks. I appreciate you keeping your men in line.” I laugh at how she calls them my men and she look confused.
“These men are the mother chapter of the Ghost Riders MC; they are not my men. That one,” I point to where my dad is leaning against the wall, “he is the president.”
“Oh, I just assumed, they listen to you so well.”
“He is my father.”
She nods her head in understanding.
“I can recommend a great person for Zoe to talk to after she leaves here,” she leans over the counter where the nurses’ computers are set up and brings back a business card.
“She has a therapist, thank you though.”
I sit and visit with Zoe for a little while longer, the guys lean against the wall across from her but none of them make any move to get closer to her. I asked her if she wants me to stay with her for the night, but Raven volunteered.
“No offense but I don't want to leave the hospital on the back of a motorcycle.”
I understand, riding on a motorcycle isn't for everyone plus right now the entire city doesn't know that she has any ties to the club. She might be able to get out of this unscathed, leaving with us could be explained as wanting to get to Zoe as quickly as possible. Zoe made her decision as soon as she let all of us come here.
“I'll bring her car in the morning and have one of the guys drive me back to campus,” I give them both a kiss on the cheek and step out into the hallway. As we make our way back into the parking lot, we grab the club members that are scattered amongst the hallways, the ones that waited in the parking lot or just standing around shooting the shit. I knew that a lot of us were here but my goodness, I understand why so many people looked scared while entering the hospital.
“Are you going back to campus tonight?” My dad asks, the concern in his eyes makes my chest hurt.
“No, I think I'll stay at the apartment with the guys, the entire campus saw me with the club. Tomorrow is going to be a shit show.”
“You should have known that it was never going to work out lying to them.” It doesn’t matter how I try to explain, my father isn’t going to understand.
“Lying to them was my only option, also I never expected anyone to find out other than Zoe and Raven.”
“You thought that you would be able to live with these girls for four years and the rest of them not find out?” The humor on his face makes my shoulders relax a little.
“Listen, I'm coming home at the end of the year. I have no idea what I want to do as far as a career but I'm not staying at this campus after all of this.”
“You know you don't need to have a career; the club is here for you.”
“The club is yours Dad, yours to run, yours to rule. It'll never be mine.”
“After the way that these men listened to you today, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Who knows, maybe times are changing, and you could be the next president of the Ghost Riders MC.”
