I back away and leave the dance floor before he can respond. I hope that he will get the point this time but if past action is any indication, he won't. I want to know if he knows more about what happened to that girl, but it's not worth risking whatever Bell would do to him if he got too close. Though if he had something to do with her dying, what I’m going to do to him will be a lot worse.
“Another one.” I stand at the bar opening. As soon as I walked up one of the guys turned to me, it didn’t matter that he had a line of people in front of him.
“Hey! Why does she get to cut? I was here way before her!” Some girl whines from a few people back.
“She drinks first because—” I clear my throat and give him a death glare, reminding him that my identity isn’t public knowledge.
“Because she is the one paying us.” The other guy supplies, I appreciate his quick catch and smile at him with a small nod.
“I didn’t get y’all’s names?”
“Hollow and Top,” he nods his head back at me and I smile at him, if I ever have to call my dad for something like this again, I want him to send these two.
I take my drink and go on a hunt for Raven or Zoe, I couldn't see them from my spot on the dancefloor and I don't particularly want to go back out there with Tanner.
I find them in one of the back rooms playing beer pong with some of the Alpha Delta Pi girls. I know that in most schools there is all this drama between the Sororities but that isn't the way that it is around here. For the most part, we all get along really well, when the games are going on we might have some trash talk but it never goes too far, and it doesn't linger around when they are over.
The games are something that the Greek row does about halfway through the spring semester. There is tug-of-war, flag football, a form of wheel of fortune, trivia–about our state and the Greek system–and for the students that are old enough to drink, there are a few drinking games. The system in which houses are disqualified is confusing and hard to explain but either way, we all have a blast and there is a party at the end of it.
The Greek system will use any reason that we can to have a party though, so it’s not a surprise that we have one after a week of contests.
“FINLEY!” Raven yells and throws her hands in the air. “Second or third drink?” She pulls me in close and puts her arm around my shoulder. I think one day I will bring her to the clubhouse and let her party with the bikers, she has a wild side and as long as she doesn't run her mouth too much she would fit in perfectly at the clubhouse.
I’m not sure when I started thinking about going back to the clubhouse, even now I don't know if I am sure what I want to do after I’m done here.
I shake myself out of it, now is not the time to be thinking about that.
“Second,” I tip the cup and make a show of downing the whole thing and dropping the cup into the trash can in the corner.
“Oh, hell yeah!” I don't want to tell them that it will take more than two strong drinks to get me buzzed because that will lead to questions, but I have a habit of sipping vodka from a cup when most people think it is water. Sipping it isn't enough to get me drunk but now and then it's nice to just have a drink, I like the way it makes my stomach warm.
Letting them think that I don't drink is part of the whole story, and at some point tonight, I am going to have to fake being a little drunk. Probably in about 30 minutes. I will be able to act normal again after a few songs of dancing.
“I want to know more about those bartenders that your guy sent here,” Zoe tells me while she takes her shot at the table.
“OH MY GOD! Me too! The tall one is super yummy!” The blonde across the table fans herself.
“I think they are both edible! They have that whole Sons of Anarchy vibe to them!” I cringe a little at how close she is to the truth, no one notices but it's not like it would matter anyway, that observation could make a person shudder for several reasons. None of which would be that I have ties to something very similar to Sons of Anarchy.
“I am not picky! I could just throw a line and drag up the first one that bites.” Zoe turns toward the bar and pretends like she is fishing, even acting like she is struggling to reel in the line. The whole room howls with laughter.
“I think they would both serve the purpose I have a need for. They look a little dark and rough around the edges! I bet they like it dirty!”
I look around the room and realize that it's all girls in here. We have another room on the other side of the house that has beer pong in it too, I guess that's where all the guys are. I know at least half of the girls in this room wouldn't be saying things like this around any of the frat guys, they would either make it gross or take it too far.
“I don't know much about them, just two of his employees,” it's a little bit of a stretch but it's not a lie. I'll take it. A few of the girls look disappointed that I can't tell them more, but Zoe doesn't look discouraged.
I have let the sorority make a lot of assumptions about me and where I came from and the life that I had before coming here. It keeps me from having to keep too many lies straight, if they have made an assumption and I say something that contradicts it then no one thinks anything of it. When they ask something that I need to lie about, I try to simply string out the truth.
“I don't know that I want to know that much about him either, but there are a few… points… I would like to go over.”
“ZOE!” Raven claps her hands in praise of her.
Zoe has never been the type of girl that shies away from her sex life, and she doesn't hide it either. I'm sure a few people would call her a slut but none of those people are in this room. Those people think there is shame in being comfortable in your skin, there shouldn't be shame in sex, we are only animals.
“They have a history of bartending at parties, I'm sure they have a long history of hooking up with women and never calling them again,” I am not trying to talk any of them out of it, but I don't want them getting it in their head that they could date the guy.
“I am not breaking from my timeout, but I could always see if I can add someone new to the roster,” most of the girls look at Zoe with eyes of awe. So many girls want to be more like her and just don't have the guts to.
