He grinned but didn’t open his eyes. “Yes, I promise.”
After a long silent moment, Zachary asked. “Tell me about what you want to do.”
“Like with my life?”
“Yeah.”
“I want to do my stock marketing and maybe find a charity to spend some time at. What about you?”
“Since I’m back, I’ll be in the office. I know I’ll be working with computers, but I’m not sure what I’ll be doing.”
“Are you good with computers?” she asked.
“Yes. I think you told me you were, too.”
“Yes. Maybe I can help you.”
He chuckled. “Maybe.”
She hoped she would be able to help him because she didn’t like the thought of being away from him for eight or more hours.
Chapter Twelve
“I have to tell my mom everything.”
“I’ll be there with you, sweetheart. You’re twenty-two, which means you’re an adult. You get to make your own decisions. If she cuts you off, I make enough for both of us.”
“Cuts me off?” Anna asked.
“Yeah, takes away your money or allowance.”
She almost smiled. “I probably have more money than she does.”
He stiffened. “How?”
“My dad left me a lot, and remember I told you I have a knack for the stock market? I’ve made a lot just doing that.” She didn’t understand why that would upset him, but she decided to keep the fact she owned the house from him.
“It’s starting to get chilly out. Let’s go in and watch a movie.”
She smiled. “I’d like that.”
She waited until he stood with his crutches and then followed him into the house.
They got situated on the sofa and started a movie they both agreed on. An hour later, they heard a car pull up.
Someone knocked on the door.
“Yo, man, it’s Caleb and Bella. Open the fucking door.”
Her eyes widened.
Zachary chuckled. “It’s okay. He’s obnoxious but harmless. Will you go let them in?”
“Sure.”
She took a step back after she opened the door. The man was as large as Zachary and had a dark scowl on his face.
The tiny woman next to him hit him in the stomach, and she turned to smile at her.
