“Positive.” He sighed deeply when he got comfortable and had her where he wanted her, which was plastered to his side.
“Damn, very few things feel as good as this,” he said.
“What are some others?”
He looked down at her. “I don’t think you want to know.”
“Of course, I do. I’d like to know what makes you feel good.”
“All right. I think I’d feel the best being in your body.”
He watched her think about it for a bit until she understood. “Really?”
“Yes. I think I will make you crave my touch very soon.”
She snuggled against him. “You already do.”
Hell. She had to go and say that. “Go to sleep.”
“Okay.”
He held her for a long time and looked up at the ceiling. Knowing what caused her to be in his arms, he’d do it again because he knew they probably wouldn’t have met otherwise, and the thought of not knowing her made his stomach cramp.
When he opened his eyes, the shadows in the room told him a few hours had passed, and they both needed to eat something. The feel of her in his arms felt so right, and he couldn’t imagine going another night without her.
He rubbed her arm up and down. “Hey, sweetheart. Let’s get up. If we sleep much longer, we won’t be able to sleep tonight, and I’m hungry.”
She blinked a few times and then looked up at him. “What?”
There was no way he was going to pass up this moment. He lowered his head and kissed her. Her arms came around his neck, and she automatically strained to get closer to him. He slid his hand up and down her side, lightly grazing the side of her breast.
The kiss deepened, and he rolled them, trying to maneuver himself between her legs, but the blankets got tangled in the cast. He lifted his head. “Fuck. That was close.”
Zachary pressed a quick kiss to her lips and rolled to the side of the bed. He groaned when he looked over his shoulder to see her dazed and needy.
He knew if he didn’t leave the bed in the next few seconds, he’d have her under him, and he didn’t think she was ready for that. Besides, trying to make love to her while wearing a cast would take some maneuvering, and he wanted her first time to be beautiful.
“I’ll meet you in the kitchen.”
Chapter Eleven
Anna watched Zachary hurry out of the bedroom. Well, as much as a person could hurry on crutches.
She didn’t know what caused his hasty retreat, but she wouldn’t ask. There were some things she’d rather not know.
After rolling out of bed, she adjusted her clothes and used the restroom. She wanted to brush her teeth but had to find her toothbrush first. Her bags were stacked in one corner of the bedroom. She just hadn’t had a chance to go through them.
She heard a thump from the kitchen and hurried there. Zachary was trying to hold himself up on the crutches while trying to get something out of a pan. She bit her lip at the curses coming out of his mouth.
“Let me help.”
He looked over at her and sighed. “I forgot how much of a pain in the ass crutches were.”
“That’s why I’m here.”
Her mouth started to water when she saw the pan of lasagna. She put some on two plates and microwaved them. She knew her way around a kitchen, thanks to CeCe. She wasn’t a gourmet chef, but she wanted to continue to learn. Being away from the house would make it easier because she and the staff always had to hide the fact that they were friends or maybe more like a family.
She set the hot plates on the table. “What would you like to drink?”
