“Not bad at all. I’m glad I can see the whole face now. You’re very handsome.”
He chuckled. “The injury doesn’t make me look like Frankenstein?”
Her brows puckered fiercely. “What? No, not at all.”
He bit his lip to keep from laughing. The door opened again, and Trey walked in with a bag. “Yo, man. You’re looking good.”
“Thanks. Is that my clothes?”
“Yeah, I’ve got sweatpants that will fit over your cast, a t-shirt, and one of your shoes.”
“Thank you.”
Zachary slid his legs off the bed and started to pull the clothing out. He’d taken the gown off when he’d gotten back from his walk with Thomas.
He turned to look at Anna. “If you don’t want to see my tush again, you better turn your back.”
“I’m an adult. I think I can handle it.”
Zachary started to pull the sweatpants up his legs before standing and pulling them up over his hips. He almost laughed when he saw her looking at the ceiling, her bright face red. One look at Trey told him he was fighting his amusement, too.
He was pulling on his t-shirt when the nurse came in with papers. She went over everything he needed to do. She handed him a bag of plastic wraps for his cast when he bathed.
The first thing he would do was shower when he got home.
Zachary signed everything he needed to. Thomas came in a moment later with a wheelchair. He scowled down at it, making Trey and Thomas laugh because they knew exactly how much men like him hated wheelchairs.
All he cared about was getting out of there.
Chapter Nine
Anna grabbed the papers and other things, Trey the crutches, while Thomas maneuvered him into the chair.
Trey pulled in close to the door. The orderly helped Zachary into the truck.
“Thank you, Thomas.”
“No problem. Take care.”
The car door closed, and Zachary took his first breath of freedom. He looked behind him to see Anna looking out the backside window.
“Travis dropped some things off this morning, so you two should be set for a while. We’ll all be checking in with you periodically, but you know you can call us any time.”
“Yeah. I appreciate the hell out of you guys.”
Trey grinned. “We know.”
Zachary snorted.
They pulled up into the driveway, and the first thing he noticed was the lawn had been mowed, and the place looked neat and clean.
“Who did that?”
“I’m not sure. You had the whole office doing something.”
“Even Caleb?”
Trey grinned. “Yup.”
