“If you can get her to stop running down the stairs, it would be a miracle.”

Anna gasped. “Jessup!”

The older man raised one brow. “Am I telling a falsehood, miss?”

She sighed and shook her head. “No, sir.”

Kane laughed. “Do you have more suitcases?”

“Yes, three big ones. Let me go up—”

“You’ll stay here and let Jessup and me carry them down.”

“Yes, sir,” Anna said.

She watched as they walked up the stairs before running into the kitchen to say goodbye to CeCe. She was the woman in charge of the meals and organizing the maids when needed. CeCe and Jessup had been with her family as long as Anna was alive. She was closer to them and a few others, like the gardener and a few guards, than her mother, Patricia. They had each taught her so much over the years because her mother was always working. It wasn’t that her mother didn’t love her. She just didn’t know how to show it and came off cold and disapproving most of the time.

Within five minutes, her cases were stowed in the back of Kane’s SUV, and she was hugging Jessup. “I’ll miss you,” she said.

Jessup patted her shoulder. “I feel we’ll be seeing each other again soon, miss.”

“I hope so. Maybe we can meet for lunch or dinner?”

Jessup’s lips twitched. “We’ll see.”

“Come on, honey.”

She got in the front seat and buckled up. She looked back at the house again. “Did you know that the house is mine?”

Kane glanced at her. “What?”

“My father gave me this place and my mom the house in Jamaica. I think he was hoping she’d relax more, but she’s just working more than she did before.”

“Would you live in the house if you could?” Kane asked.

“Oh, yes. I love everything about it, but I know it won’t happen for a long time. I have to wait until my mother decides to move out because I can’t live there with her anymore.”

“Things have a way of working themselves out, honey.”

She sniffed, looked down at her hands in her lap, and nodded. “My father used to say that. One of my favorite places is my dad’s office. I would sit on the sofa and read while he worked, or he’d show me what he did to make money. He said I was a natural and gave me one hundred thousand dollars to play with. I was eight years old. I turned it into a million within three years.”

“Oh, wow. That’s amazing. Are you still trading?”

“As much as I can. My mother has me working a lot at the hospital and taking classes at college.”

“And you don’t like either?”

She shook her head.

“I’m sure Zachary will help you with that.”

Anna looked over at him. “How?”

“I’m not sure. You’ll have to ask him, honey.”

She nodded.

They pulled up to the hospital and parked.
